COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bruegel is an easy drinking soft and tasty amber ale. Thanks to the refermentation it offers more body, more head and more taste than most other American and Belgian Amber ales. It is brewed with Dutch barley and German hops. Although the bitterness is clearly present, it is not dominant.

Pours a clear golden orange color with golden mango colored hues when held to a light source and a thin white foam head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing. Spicy aroma with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar along with hints of crisp light fruit, pepper, hops and caramel malt. This beer smells more like a marzen to me. Softly carbonated up front with a strong spicy character that gives way to a malty center and long spicy dry finish. Hints of caramel malt, pepper, light fruit, cinnamon and brown sugar. It kind of tastes like a watered down Belgian interpretation of an Oktoberfest/Marzen.

Murky desert sand. Ripe fruits especially lemons in the nose. Fairly straight forward flavor, very mild, not offensive, just not that good. Overcarbonated. Unnessassary acidity hurts this. Blah.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber-brown with a creamy off-white head that lingered well. Aroma is dominated by malts and yeast, very sweet breadish with noticible spice notes. Flavor starts with a bite, sharp spices and hops, maltiness in the middle and a lingering tart finish. Mouthfeel is nice, medium body and creamy carbonation.

Pours a crystal clear sunshine gold, with a medium pearly white head. Looks to be filtered to all hell. Smells of some crisp grain, mild candy sugar and cereal malts. The taste was really grainy tasting and a bit bitter. The flavor wasnt very crisp or sharp. Had a little sweetness to it in the finish, but that didnt really add much more enjoyment to it at all for me. Quite disappointing.

Pours dark amber. Decent carbonation that goes down smooth, very pleasant malty taste with strange but not offensive cold metallic favor in the finish. I nice choice if you dont want a Belgian Ale with 9+ %

Pours a hazy brown with large amounts of white head. High levels of carbonation throughout the beer. Musty nose of caramel and fruit. Slightly bitter flavors of fruit and sweet malt. Mouthfeel is a bit light and very bubbly. Nothing to get overly excited about, but nice.

The last of a Belgian sampler pack, this particular release was a safe and unremarkable amber ale. Of the selections it was one of those beers that you could drink but would soon forget. There are no major flaws to speak of; however there are also few things to wow the palate.

Aroma / Appearance - The one huge issue was that the beer was a bit of a gusher. When it eventually settled down I was left with a chestnut colored base topped by a spoonful of topioca pudding. The nose was nutty with touches of caramel and malt. An overall sweetness provided some interest.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel, icing from a sweet cheesecake, and warm tea soothe the palate. The flavors soon fade on the back of the tongue. The silky finish was like cream pie after a sip of cool water. Overall not bad but there are simply too many other better Belgian releases to drink instead.

A balanced and pleasent amber ale. I wonder if this is not the model for Fat Tire.
