COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bruegel is an easy drinking soft and tasty amber ale. Thanks to the refermentation it offers more body, more head and more taste than most other American and Belgian Amber ales. It is brewed with Dutch barley and German hops. Although the bitterness is clearly present, it is not dominant.

Bottled. Aroma is lactic with malts, caramel and herbs in the background. Amber color, beige irregular head, few lace. Sour, lactic, even vinegar, bit fruity, flat and thin. Something clearly went wrong somewhere.

Amber orange color with a smaller light tan head. Light aroma of malt. Sweet sour flavors. Nothing special.

Medium amber color, large head. A lighter bodied amber ale. Lightly roasted malts, slightly hoppy. Somewhat spicy. Clean taste. Mild flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty.

Bottle (330ml). Beer of Belgium Gift pack 1of6. Poured clear bubbly reddish-amber with a smallish fizzy off-white lasting head. Aroma of candy-apple roast malt, some sweet booze like Southern Comfort or apricot schnapps, some light vanilla spice and mild oak on warming - appealing but a little unbalanced. Taste is of fruit, sweet roast malt, a bit of slightly harsh grain. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky, has a lengthening bitter finish as it warms - not bad, better than I remembered.

330 mL bottle from Greenwood Gourmet Grocery near Crozet, VA. Pours a reddish amber color, slightly hazy, with a surprisingly small head considering it was such an explosive gusher. Decent head retention and nice lacing. Odd aroma of toasted malts, caramel, raisins and a slight tart note. Taste is toasted malts, caramel, toffee and bitter hops. Full bodied. Strange one.

(33 cl bottle at The Rover, Göteborg) Clear copper to brown color, fluffy tan head. Sweet grainy and fruity scent. Sweet yeasty and metallic taste. Smooth mouthfeel. Low bitterness. A bit spicy aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2007 Lagery gold pour. Intensely sweet malty-hoppy nose developing some gueuzish vinegar as it warms. In fact, it smells exactly like gueuze. But flavour-wise, crisply hoppy with a nicely rounded bready maltiness in the finish. Pleasantly metallic. Somewhere between a very sweet malty lager and a hoppy straw ale. Tasty and refreshing.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2006 Rerate. A nice white head. The body is a very dark copper and amber color. A slight funky balsamic vinegar and blue cheese aroma. There are also some apples. Interesting. The taste is slightly sour with some limes and oranges. A hint of bread crust. Finishes with some sweet peaches. This is certainly unique.
