3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nuffield (3058) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - FEB 1, 2003
The real Bruegel was a master. This beer is not a master, but it is a decent basic beer that benefits from everything the Belgians do well. The appearance is wonderful--a sea of head, billowing and white, lacing nicely on the sides of the glass, and remaining in some quantity for quite some time. Hazy amber color. The aroma strikes me as the typical Belgian: clove, other spices, banana. My wife thought it had a bit of good bees wax to the aroma. The flavors were similar but weak--watery flavor profile, lacking much depth or any finish. The palate wasn't bad: a hint watery but a lively carbonation too. I was not struck by any marked sweetness or sourness that others might find. Overall, a beginners' Belgian, but it has a good fundamental composition (in need of sprucing up).

Not really much of a Belgian, and it calls itself an amber for what its worth. Still, I was a little dissapointed by this one as I have grown to expect more from Belgium. It is a good tasting beer, and really not all that bad. Just it’s local competition is mich better.

This beer pours a light amber with a relatively generous white head. Aroma is of malty sweetness, light fruit. Tastes somewhat sweet, then turns sour. Overall, this is a beer I would drink, but not one I will actively seek out.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 eve (240) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - JAN 5, 2006
Honey-red pour, strong aroma of butterscotch and dried apricots, heavily malty with honey and caramel, faint hop flavor. Unusual for an amber, even a Belgian--the butterscotch was almost overwhelming, to me.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 iosonomarco (41) - Milano, ITALY - MAR 30, 2006
Aroma di malto tostato, con note speziate e di caramello. Gusto dolce, caramellato, con un leggero rivestimento amaro che sale di tono verso il fondo. Si percepisce una maggiore gradazione alcolica rispetto a quella effettiva.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Dorqui (1547) - Brescia, ITALY - MAR 16, 2006
Maroon clearly and fraught color, not a lot hazy. Compact and abundant head even if rather little long-lasting. Much spiced and sweet scent; notes of caramel, lightly toasted malt, must and cellar. Lightly prickly and mellow taste, elevated alcoholic perception with fruity, of wine and clear mildew rumors. Modest bitter. Medium extended final.

From bottle. Fruity aroma, but less sweet than other Belgian ales I have tried. Very fizzy with white head. Blandish taste, which makes it quite drinkable compared to some other strong tasting beers
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 drpimento (1695) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 4, 2010
Bruegel Amber Ale Poured with a nice sized cream colored foamy frothy head that lasts and lots of lace. Color is a clear amber. Aroma is malty, a bit yeasty and fruity. Flavor is like aroma with a little bitterness in the finish which makes it much more drinkable. Body is real full and carbonation is good too. Nothing real special for a Belgian ale, but better than most all other world amber ales that are trying to mimic this style.
