3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DrnkMcDermott (2391) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2007
33 cl bottle. Part of a sampler six of vSteen. beers from <a href=http://ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/oak-forest in Oak Forest, meaning it may have set awhile without air conditioning. I’d think to start with the lightest abv beer, which would have suffered most. So, this one frothed over when opened, even after being in my fridge for two months. Healthy looking foam in the glass, but it shriveled away quickly. Managed to preserve a nice Belgian malt smell with a little sourness. Color is reddish-amber with gold outlines, a watercolor of a beer in my tulip glass. Millions of unfiltered particles well-distributed. Taste shows a little of that sourness that may be from getting warm, but not a bad off flavor. A bit of strawberry nectar, too. Golden pils or vienna level malt, offset by a little bitterness. Prickly carbonation. I’d have thought it bottle conditioned, but no yeast at the bottom. Kind of a less sour version of some old Jenlain Six I once had. Not bad. I’d hope to someday find an assuredly fresher one.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 HopsOrDie (687) - New Lenox, Illinois, USA - FEB 13, 2006
Amber colored beer with a medium bright white head. Not much carbonation for a Belgian. Strong caramel smell, almost like a Rolo with the chocolate sucked off. Goes down far too easy with the lack of carbonation. Flavor is very sweet with a huge caramel taste and some hop flavor and bitterness, but predominantly sweet.

Amber color, cloudy, full and firm tan head. Mildly spicy, some yeast, banana, and some pear. Medium bodied. Not very distinctive in any way but OK.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Smacky (71) - San Clemente, California, USA - AUG 4, 2003
The aroma is probably the most appealing aspect of this mellow Belgian Amber Ale. This beer is the color of a Southern California sunset: hazy and dingy orange, with an aggressive head that lingers. The nose is bright, spicy, bready, and fruity. The mouth is slightly smooth at first, then a creeping but mellow acidity comes in and brings sweet, malty, and somewhat citrus-like flavors to the fore. Decent.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Syd (920) - Waconia, Minnesota, USA - JAN 30, 2004
Bottle pours an amber color with a large head that consists of large bubbles below the head sheen with little lace. The aroma is yeasty and malty. The flavor is dry and lightly yeasty with a fairly rich body. Overall, average to slightly above.

Bottle. Amber coloured with a slim white head. Sweet malty and caramel aroma. Quite a thin mouthfeel, with a malty, sugary, caramel taste and a light sour finish. Nothing special.
