A lightly hazed dark brown ale with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, smooth molasses and dark fruits, with light ginger, orange peels, lemon touches, and licorice. In mouth, a rich bodied burned caramel malt with light licorice, treacle, light alcohol (noting the 5%), very roasted, well done.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a clear dark red-orange color with a thin tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of spicy, earthy, herbal and vegetal notes. The taste is spices, almost curry-like, squash, herbal notes and faint caramel malts. Medium bodied. Interesting.

Cloudy brownish pour, creamy head. Loads of spices in the nose, roasted pumpkin, candi sugar, syrup and some gingery notes. Sweet flavor, spicy, yeast, tons goin on in this one and in a pretty good way. Tap at the Bruery Provisions on my crazy birthday San Diego trip with Storminorman.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle @ home. Cloudy brown appearance with a light brown head. Citrusy, potpourri, air freshener, a touch toasty malty, hugely floral aroma. Toasty pumpkin, lemon citrusy, big floral flavor. Floral, pumpkin aftertaste. Weird beer- I won’t be drinking any more than this one but it isn’t all that bad.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz. bottle, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma is very earthy and dirty, with birch bark, many spices that I could never decipher, and some grass. Flavour is very odd, as expected, with various odd spices, bark, grass, earth, dirt, pumpkin / yams, etc. Not offensive, but I can’t say it’s exactly enjoyable. Nice experiment.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Something different. The pumpkin was well in the secondary of taste to the herbs and slight bitterness and woodiness. I liked it and could drink this anytime, particular at this level of sessionability.
