3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tmoney99 (7299) - Cincinnati, USA - FEB 4, 2012
Draft sample at IBGWF 12. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and sour yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet & sour flavor with a medium to heavy sour & sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where met.

Pours black but not completely opaque with a slight tan head. Nose involves some chocolate, roasted notes, a little anise, some bubblegum, banana and spice. Taste is a balanced bittersweet. Palate is fuller, somewhat oily and slick, with a bitter roasted finish. This was a really nice beer, pretty easy to drink, and good for pairings. Nice.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of rich malts and a hint of roasted malt. Also dark fruits. Flavor of dark fruits, Belgian yeast, with a light roast finish. Very dark Belgian ale with a hint of roastiness, booze.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - SEP 28, 2011
On tap at Brugge Brasserie last weekend. Served in a tulip.
Poured near black with a good off-white/light tan head and some good lacing. The nice brought a bit of yeast plus a large amount of roasted malt. The flavor was mostly all roast with some light dark-fruit character. Interesting, but not all that enjoyable. There was some creaminess to the feel, though mostly dry roast. Overall, this was far too dominated by bitter roasted malt.
