(draught at brewpub) near espresso brown, dark tan soapy head. Nose dominate of briny/salty olives, some chocolate, amd very light roasted malt. Touch of smoke too. Taste is quite smoky, olive, and chocolate malt. Crey body. Somewhat easy to drink, just way too salty for me.

On tap the brewpub, served in a tulip...A really outstanding looking beer, pours black with a huge, nice and thick brown head. Great retention and lacing, just stays forever...A light but off aroma. Briney olives, salty light chocolate. Intentional or infected, its not clear but can’t imagine they wold be serving if it was infected...The taste is distinct, more olives come through, but they are better balanced by light chocolate. The taste just doesn’t translate as well as the aroma. The aroma is weird but I love olives so I can handle, drinking chocolate olives is a bigger step that really hurts the drinkability.
I would drink this again if I was drinking it with the brewer so I could crawl into his head and see his intent.

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 On draught at the brewpub, served in a tulip. The beer is a very dark brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Short strings of lace. The aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with a touch of yeast. Medium body with a roasty and smoky character and flavors of dark chocolate, malt, figs and spice. The finish is chocolatey with a roasted malt aftertaste. Really good Porter all around.

Tulip glass at the brewpub. Pours very dark with ruby tints and great lacing. The aroma entices me immediately with notes of bacon and very light, tart fruitiness and soy sauce. I had two or three sips of this before I noticed the Belgian influence in the way of some cloves deep in the finish. I should’ve known this would have Belgian influence. The problem with some porters of this style is the massive, overdone esters. This one is mostly about the delicious, roasty malt character. Really a great beer.

On tap at Brugge. Pours very dark, close to black, with a nice tan head. The aroma has milk chocolate, vanilla, cream and is fairly sweet. Medium / light body with a good amount of effervescence. The flavors start with lightly bitter roasted malt, dark chocolate, lactic acidity, some creaminess and there is a spritziness to the flavors. The finish add a bit of phenolic spice and hints of charred malt. A very enjoyable porter.

On tap at Brugge. Pours a hershey chocolate bar brown with thick foamy tan head that slowly fades. Lost of smooth dark malts, chocolate and a slight caramel hint. The 7.5% comes through a little more than I’d prefer and ends up distracting from the excellent flavors a little for me, but overall this is very good.
