3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, USA - JAN 18, 2012
Draft on tap at Three Floyds (Munster, IN). Kinda shocked this is still on. Pours a rich well hazed amber orange pour, dulled, some faint glow on the edges with a frothy offwhite head that is creamy, laces ok overall. Not bad. Aromas are tart and fruit, crab apples, lemons, and some estery banana and pear. Gentle oranges, dry farmhouse essence. Decent funky nose offers some cobwebs, touches of dust, and a decent tartness. Some bready malts, honey, and more sourness than I expected. Initial is medium bodied, offering a healthy sourness up front. Lemons, yogurt, and dry funky brett. Touches of apple, pear. There has to be Lacto in this, not just brett. Touches of sweetness, more yogurt, some bready malts, faint honey in the middle. Really less girthy than the base with quite a nice sourness, wild yeast essence. Dry funk, yogurt, and lemons stick into the back with ok sweetness, faint honey, and touches of yeastiness, dough. Overall, pretty refreshing, a suitable sourness, wild yeast essence transforms a beer I’m not normally a big fan of (it seems like a Belgian, just not a Tripel). Decent sourness, nothing overbearing yet dancing over the palate. Just a faint touch of heat way further in as it warms in the finish that detracts a touch. Pretty nice beer here. Extra bump because the flavors were on for me overall.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pantanap (2838) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 14, 2012
On tap at three floyds. A nice substitute for not having ba ice grille. First diamond kings of heaven and now this. Nice for sure... Pours a mostly opaque and non-transparent orange caramel tinted hue and toped with a thin and somewhat flimsy film of mostly white head... Enticing aroma of apple cider, tart and semi-sour. And a mild vinegar aspect to it. A mild earthy sweet backing also surfaces after the quality sour notes... Triple comes out with a coconut and nutty sweetness upfront which then develop more fo a sour and tart vinegar based brettiness. Apple cider notes to go alongside the aforementioned. A light acetone nature to it with a modicum of leaving a burning sensation from its acidity. Just shy of medium bodied with an equal level of carbonation. A
solid offering on all acounts although the hints of acetone disrpupts its cohesiveness.
