StFun (411), Indiana, USA May 7, 2008 Only overshadowed by the Triple at Brugge, but the Black stands on its own as well. Pours an inky black with some deep red and no head. Aroma is very similar to the Triple, lots of smoke and yeast. Lots of flavors swimming around in this one, yeast and malt and candy and sugar. Definite orange and dark fruit notes too. Similar to Barley island’s Sinister Minister, but with a profile all its own. Very nice!
kiefdog (731), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 24, 2008 On tap at Brugge Brasserier (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a hazy dark caramel brown color with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and somewhat malty with notes of cooked mushrooms, spice, hints of barnyard funk and nutmeg. Flavor is slightly malty, slightly sweet with hints of spice, honey, some faint sour malt and barnyard funk. Generally light to medium body with a watery malty finish.
bretupdegraff (135), Fishers, Indiana, USA Dec 4, 2008 Aroma is offensive to me, might be nut. It reminds me of the Leinenkugel Fireside Nut ale that I hated. nice sized white head and very carbonated. Taste was more offensive. it tasted like vinigar and sour milk tarty soda. I agree with daknole this beer looks good.
Take a picture of it but dont drink it. If this is Belgian Ale I will avoid Belgium. not my style. Cornfield (4468), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 Rating from a bottle bought at Pat’s Liquors in Porter, IN. It pours pretty much like a Pepsi but (very) briefly sports a fizzy brown head. It has an aroma of roasty malts, dark fruit, burnt molasses, and an odd sourness. The flavor seems a bit mixed up. Dark malt, burnt sugar, dark stone fruit, smoke, aniseed, and spices - mixed together in an interesting but not altogether pleasant way. Methinks they tossed too much into this with too little testing. The finish has a touch of sour milk to it, definitely not what I look forward to in a beer. Not too bad, but the recipe needs refinement. AmEricanbrew (1218), Office of The President Elect,, Louisiana, USA Oct 22, 2008 Bottle. Near black with a tan head. Big tart wheat, earthy roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Decent earthy yeasty nutty malt flavors with tart wheat mirrors the aroma. Not too bad. daknole (1268), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 10, 2008 Odd beer. Beautiful pour, but my enjoyment may have ended there. Aroma is pretty nice and malty with some funk. Flavor is funky and a tad tart/sour. I taste hints of a good beer, but I cannot get past the weird funk.
