on tap at Brugge - I will start off by saying it was the end of a long night when I rated this one and my palate was a bit fried. Aroma is sweet, malty, and smokey. Pours black with a smalll head and decent lacing. Flavor is roasted malts, yeast, smoke, cocoa, and a little hop tartness. Palate is thin and sticky like a European dark lager. Different and interesting.

Fit the bill for the style, just not enough dark maltiness. Carbonated and sweet as expected this was the best Brugge had to offer. I like the idea of belgain brewpub, but having a St Bernardus would have been more enjoyable.

Draft. Pours a jet black with a thin tan head. The aroma is of strong dark fruits, plenty of malt. The initial flavor was really bland. Actually surprisingly bland. As the beer was a bit chilled at serving, I set it down for 10 minutes or so and came back to it. There was all the flavor I was waiting on. Dark fruits, subtle coffee, canilla, candied sugar. A good beer once it warms up

Tasted 4/12/08. Schlafly’s Repeal of Prohibition festival. Dark brown with a beige head. Coffee and fudge aromas. Touch dark fruit. Full bodied and roasty and sweet. Sugary with notes of honey and berries. Nice yeast character. NIce finish. Tight effervescence. Long cloying finish. Nice.

Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition, on tap. Belgian style with dark body. By the time I drank this, the sampling was moving along. We came out of the Bottleworks from lunch and I went straight to the Black. Very nice.

Draft: Poured @ Brass Monkey brew-pub in Kokomo...very dark brown in color with a minimal tan head. Dark fruits with the sweet dark malts accentuate the nose immediately with notes of belgian yeast and candied sugar. Flavor pretty much follows the nose. Good, not great.

Draught at the Brugge Brasserie. Appears opaque dark brown with a creamy tan head, stout-like. Aroma is tart and fruity with hints of rich clove and sweet malt. Fairly sour flavor but fairly mild over all with some hints of its darker charcter. Full feel in the mouth.

Bottle. Near black with a tan head. Big tart wheat, earthy roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Decent earthy yeasty nutty malt flavors with tart wheat mirrors the aroma. Not too bad.

Big dark pour with tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, molasses spice. Flavor is interesting: I get some roasty malt and chocolate, spice, sweet burnt sugar, then some coffee with a nice tart orange peel in the finish. Nice mouthfeel with a tad less carbonation than most belgian ales. Still, solid, delicious ale.
