PhysZac (69), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Jan 15, 2008 I’m glad to say I don’t know how many times I’ve had this. Haven’t tried since they started brewing in Terre Haute, hopefully Sunday. Now for the beer. Black pour, nice raisin tint, no head. Smell is simple, sweet, and a little citrus. Taste is sharp and refreshing. Usually served a little cold. As it warms, it opens up and is barely sweet, barely bitter, light chocovanilla, definite orange lingering. No alcohol taste, but whacks a wollop. Clean, almost thin palate with fine, light fiz. One of my favorites from Brugge, and believe me, two is plenty!
theisti (1084), Leawood, Kansas, USA Oct 6, 2008 750 ml bottle courtesy of tjthresh. Pour is almost entirely black, 2 inch tan head. Aroma of tobacco, ash and burning leaves. Really organic nose. Taste is sharply sweet, the smoke is still around, but melds more towards the background. The sweetness in the flavor is some banana and sharp citric pineapple sweetness. Palate is medium, dry towards the finish. This one is really unique and well made. Thanks for sending this one my way, Tom. kseecs16 (571), Westmont, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2008 Draught at the Brugge Brasserie. Appears opaque dark brown with a creamy tan head, stout-like. Aroma is tart and fruity with hints of rich clove and sweet malt. Fairly sour flavor but fairly mild over all with some hints of its darker charcter. Full feel in the mouth. jcwattsrugger (4045), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 1, 2008 on tap-pours a light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-anise, peat/roasty, earthy. Taste is tart dark fruit, herbal/medicinal, dark malt-anise, peat/roasty, earthy. Minimum carbonation. Once it warms to just above cellar temperature it improves but still the same off notes. tjthresh (1316), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Aug 31, 2008 Black with a purple tint. Served with no head. Cocoa, raisins, and herbs in the nose, though not much. Big dried dark fruit flavors. Medium body. Low carbonation. Dry finish. bdigi66 (456), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 10, 2008 Draft: Poured @ Brass Monkey brew-pub in Kokomo...very dark brown in color with a minimal tan head. Dark fruits with the sweet dark malts accentuate the nose immediately with notes of belgian yeast and candied sugar. Flavor pretty much follows the nose. Good, not great.
