3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 FunkyBrewster (1380) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 2, 2012
On tap at the brew pub, pours a hazy golden color with a thick white head. Aroma is a touch tart and appley with a strong bready, grainy note and some honey. Flavor has a slightly sharper note with more of the grain and bread, a bit spicy as the salt also kicks in, ending bit a light tart crispness. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Very interesting beer, pretty good

On draught at the brewpub. This is the "imperialized" version of Bad Kitty. The beer pours a hazy dark amber-orange color with a medium thick and foamy white head that evaporates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tart fruit, bready malt and spices. Rich and smooth body with a mildly sour fruit character and notes of citrus, malt and a bit of solvent. The finish is lemony with a lingering tartness left behind. Good beer all around.

Glass at Brugge this afternoon. Hazy orange pour with a thick off-white head. Aroma of tomato ketchup, sweet malt and citrusy sourness. Flavor starts with sour citrus, then a bit of that ketchup comes back before a finish that is equally malty sweet and tangy tart. Interesting brew, and pretty solid.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - AUG 27, 2011
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice glowing amber pour, some fiery orange, with a frothy whitish head that dies to a film, laces small. A good haziness. Aromas are a nice powerful sour lemon kick, lactic acid and saltiness mix. Some bready malts, touches of citrus, more lemony sourness. Simple yet inviting. Initial is a moderate sour kick with lemons and oranges, touches of lactic acid, some saltiness moves to the back of the palate with bready and pale malts lingering. Some toast, light fruitiness of melon. Saltiness grows, tempering the sourness. ABV, for such a large beer, is incredibly well hidden. Some honeydew, with some limes. I really think the sourness and salt create a really cool dynamic, maybe like a margarita a bit, but nowhere as sweet. Playing well, the sourness seems to take whatever dominant focus there may be. Bready and clean malts on the backend with some saltiness. Lemons, a touch of metallic (but not in a bad way) lingers a touch. More sour citrusy fruits. Pretty nice beer. Kinda surprised me, sounded like a trainwreck but it is indeed pretty drinkable. Balance for the style as it is is really good, ABV hidden. Lingers on. Perhaps the aroma lacks a bit. This probably isn’t for everyone, but I think it will score well here. Very nice and unique beer.

Draft... Clear dark gold big tope head, looks good.. Smells great, light grain a pilsner bite a touch of salt, crisp... Tastes outstanding, light sweet front but then explodes with medium tart sour mash and lemons, so easy to drink... A must try
