3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Successor of the old Brugse Tripel by Gouden Boom, in which Palm uses its own yeast and changed the first part of the name because the word ’Brugge’ looks more familiar to foreign tourists than ’Brugse’ (which simply means ’from Brugues’, obviously). Deeply golden blonde (’old gold’) with thick off-white head; aroma of apple, water melon, hay, pepper, lemon zest, thyme, coriander, bitter honey, white grapes, bread, aniseed; fruity, yeasty and caramelly malty taste with lots of explicit spiciness, drying towards the finish, where except from herbal hoppiness some warming, but not acerb alcohol also manifests itself. Perhaps a bit too straightforward, like most of Palm’s ales nowadays. I have also tasted this under its new alias Brugge Tripel Gruut and frankly, I am not convinced at all that this is really an alias: this version did seem more spicy, coriander and aniseed were clearly more emphatically present and the alcohol content of 8.7% ABV is higher than the old 8.2% ABV of the ’ordinary’ Brugge Tripel... Something to investigate!

Ik drink graag tripel, maar dan moet er smaak aan zitten en dat was bij deze niet echt het geval.

I love herbs. This herby (gruut) tripel is exactly the way I like it. Not to herbal as a Jopen Koyt, itś still a tripel with a fine gruut touch. bitter/sweet nice in the middle. Perfect, fine yeah, Brugge is beautiful by the way :-)

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Golden color with a nice white head. Malty, grainy and a bit sugary aroma. Body is medium, taste is sweet. Fizzy. Palate dominated by variety of sugary tones, too sweet. Tripel richness is not achieved at this case. B@H
