Bottle from De Hobbit, Brugge (with a great meal). Not a patch on the old Brugse Tripel, I’m afraid. Served quite cold. There weren’t many beers on the menu, and I honestly thought I’d been served Leffe Blond by mistake. Clear, definitely not bottle conditioned. Aroma of candy sugar, little bit of biscuity malt, distant hop, spice. Carbonated mouthfeel with coarse alcohol finish. Disappointing, and really I wouldn’t call it a tripel. Actually bought another bottle back at Hotel Ibis to confirm this was what they said it was. Exactly the same. Oh Dear.

Jan 5, 2009 Horizontal tasting Bruges (Brugge Tripel) vs. Ghent (Gentse Tripel). Bottled (thanks mom), BB 30-10-2006, sampled 05-01-2009 (about 5 years old). Small dying head, dark golden coloured. Aroma of orange, caramel and some spices. Sweet and alcoholic flavour, some malts, cloying. Finishes dry. Pretty awful tripel. Past its peak at this age, or just never really good? Ghent wins this one, hands down.

Jan 1, 2009 Poured golden with a full, creamy head. Nice lacing down trhe glass. Some citris spice and slight bitterness. Good beer, but a very average Belgian Triple.

Aroma: Quite yeasty. Good amount of fruit.
Taste: Nice fruit and malt. Warming. Good aftertaste.

Dec 21, 2008 Clear golden blond coloured beer ith medium white head and some nice carbonation. Full sparkling palate. Finish is herby and a little dry.

Dec 20, 2008 Had this with Oldrtybastrd. This is a golden color in the glass with an aroma of fruit and malts. This is a good tripel, but not great when it comes to Belgium tripels.
