3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JorisPPattyn (6726) - Antwerpen, - DEC 6, 2003
(What is this? Of course, the sucessor of Brugse tripel. But - is it the same and where is it brewed? The label says Palm breweries site DGB-Brugge. I hope so, many people doubt it. The ABV has been lowered (that's at least the third version). A taste difference seems clear.)
Lighter amber, very clear to the last drop; good white head, big bubbles and quite lacey. Crystal malts & cookies in the nose, and faint hoppy smell. Bitter taste, but as from burnt malts, harsh, with an imminent alcohol impression as a Bisquit-based liqueur. Mouthfeel has obvious alcohol, burning sensation, but rather empty texture and not at all dry. Aftertaste is rather unpleasantly bitterish, not hoppy. There is quite some sweetness, but is remains well hidden. Is it suggestion - but the bitterish taste reminds me of the first Palm-edited Rodenbachs. That has been rectified since. On the positive side, the cloying sweetness has gone.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 11, 2012
Bottle, Brown 33cl. Brewed on the old Gouden Boom site by Palm.
Best by 13 April 2008, drank 20 May 2008, a little behind the BBD.
Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru stemmed tulip glass.
Good deep amber, dirty old gold colour with a full slighty off-white head. Very little sediment got into the glass, but what did could be clearly seen through the otherwise misty body of the beer.
Aroma of Toffee Apples and Candy Floss, was I at the fair?
The taste tells you this is serious stuff, the alcohol is there straight away. Is it dry, bitter and sweet at the same time? Maybe, it doesn’t carry the Candy Floss into the taste, but toffee and cooking apples are in there.
The mouthfeel isn’t right, it isn’t watery, but it isn’t rich, thick or creamy in any sence of those words either. A kind of alcoholic mix containing a headache making formula.
Not sure about this, I’ve had it in Brugge and liked it a lot more than I did during the tasting, if I have another under reviewing conditions and it is a different drink I’ll re-do my review.
