Trappist1 (646) - Diest, - NOV 18, 2013
33cl bottle at Brewery (not available on tap) Color: Amber brown, off-white head, disapearing. Nose: roasted malts, nuts, candi, raisins, pear syrup. Taste: malts, caramel, chocolate, Warm body, last for some time, bit sweet finish with a subtile touch of alchol. Slightly too much carbonated, gives a somewhat aggresive touch to it, in what would be otherse a warm, gentle and complex beer. Poor choice for the name of the beer in my opinion. (Bok)

Samea tummanruskea olut vaahtoaa varsin runsaasti. Hetken laskeuduttuaan vaahtoa jää pieni kerros oluen pinnalle. Kuitenkin ihan ok.

The beer looks nice. The color of the beer is a nice ruby red. The beer is quite clear and nice little bubles rise towards the top. On top a nice layer of almond colored silky smooth foam is formed. The foam remains on top of the beer for quite some time. It’s very nice. The smell is s bit mild. There is some almond, some caramel and toffee. There are some mild bitter and sweet aromas, quite in good balance but a little to mild. The taste is a bit better. It has also some almondy alcohol flavors. There is also some caramel and toffee and a touch of licorice. The beer is a bit mild and plain. I expected more a bit of it. There are better bokbieren.

Bottle. Nose of dark fruit and brown sugar. Medium-dark translucent brown color, with a 1-2cm head, which diminished quickly. Caramel, quite malty, light sweet fruitiness, a bit of chocolate. Thin (for the alcohol level) and low carbonation. Mild, pleasant flavors. Doesn’t really pack a lot of flavor.

Amber brown body, medium head, bit too clean. Lots of caramel, fairly clean yet with a distinctly fruity yeast. No spices, no darker malts, little complexity. Caramel and candy sweetness, which is okay, but not much to balance. Can we have some spice? Decided to use most for cooking. (33cl bottle from Dranken Pauwels)

Bottle 33cl. Clear chestnut brown color, large frothy beige head, good retention, good lacing; aroma is roasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, raisins; taste is light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, toffee, short duration; medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, aftertaste is mild sweetbitter, light nutty and spicy notes; bit disappointing, certainly not a Bock.
