COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle, 11.2 oz. Nose is wonderfully quaddish, heavy dark malt overflowing with raisin and plum, sweet with fainter hints of cherry and smoke, fainter still the pear and peach, small touch of booze. Pours deep, dark red-brown with a very short, ephemeral tan head. Taste strongly sweet, all of the above with brown sugar in droves and a firmer sense of the alcohol involved, edging up into fume territory but not staying long, warming slowly and deliberately, hinting at port. Medium-full body with simple mouthfeel, not fizzy but the carb is short, and the malt depth isn’t bottomless; very sugary but also picking up some light bitterness by the finish. Doesn’t have massive complexity, and cloys at anything other than a snail’s pace, but a lot of intense flavor and fun.

Ottima quadrupel.

Bottle from Heinens shared with Brett, yeah it smells like dirt, and tastes very odd finishes dry and quickly with no lingering fruits or anything. I guess thats what their intent was but not all that enjoyable, alcohol is warming so thats a plus and it looks quad like.

Bottle. Pours cloudy intense yellow with a steady head. Aroma is deeply malt, clearly pasteurised. Body is quite light to medium for a quadruple. Taste is a bit of green hops, but also a light sour yoghurt pinch. A mediocre Belgian beer, 13 in a dozen. On the plus side, the alcohol warmth is well hidden.

(Botella, 330 ml)

Oh why can't I rate a beer without comment??? This beer is definitely best taste very very cold which yields a pleasant caramel aroma and a rich full flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Deep red-brown with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is densely malty, honey, liquorice. Flavour is big and rich--sweet malts, chocolate, caramelised sugar, yeast. Warming. This is nice.

Very nice. Smokey basement musk with a faint hint of chocolate. Pours dark cloudy brown with ok head and lacing. Light sour finish and a little bitter. Full aroma with some light floral yeast and hints of dried fruits. Some caramel. Bottle from De Vinos.

Bottle 33cl. Dark brown, near black with a light brown head. Aroma has caramel and sweetness. Not too special. But then you taste it and you?re taken to a lovely world of caramel, warmness, chocolate, coffee(?) and lots more. Lots of Co2 too. But it?s all balanced. This beer is art.

Bottle @ home. Bought from the brewery in 2012, enjoyed July 2014. Dark brown beer with a lacy head. Enjoyable quad. Obviously not as complex as R10 but a couple years aging has done good for the beer as it’s rounder and more enjoyable than fresh sample had in 2012.
