UPDATED: APR 6, 2003 Reddish-chestnut, hazy, w/ thick pockmarked head; aroma of plums and pear brandy, with traces of yeast, alcohol and Special B; alcholic and light, sweet, apple notes jump to the fore of the palate, leading into a malty middle. The finish, however, is harsh - stinging carbonation, a touch too much acidity (or not enough, if that's what they were going for) and no complexity to the malty sweetness. Good, but could do with less CO2, as the malts would be allowed to strut their stuff a little more and the finish would be so much smoother.

Pours hazy amber color with medium head. Aroma of caramel, ripe fruits and grass. Flavor of caramel malts, fruits and some dry hay.

Head: Off white, medium sized, foamy
Smell: malts, bit spicey, some candy sirup, yeasty, bit of licquorice
Taste: along the line of the smell , quite well bodied and pretty easly drinkable , altough of the rich sweet palatse it’s clearly a winter beer.

33 cl bottle. Deel Brown colour with big foamy white head. Aromas of dried fruits, malts and some cinnamon. Taste: sweet dried fruits, spicey, yeast. Aftertaste is heavy, because of the alcohol, some liquorice.
Very flavourfull and well balanced sweet beer.

Poured a amber brown. Full head. Draft. Raisons, plum, candy sugar. Med light sweetness, light bitter. Nice and complex. Slight alchohl bite. Nice stuff

Brewery Tap, Bruges. Pours brown with moderate off white head. Aroma sweet malts with fruit notes. Full bodied, nice mouth feel. Sweetish. Very pleasant..

Had this on a recent trip to Brugge, Belgium at a local bar (De Verloren Hoek) off the beaten path near the windmill on the north side of town frequented by the locals. Wonderful and friendly staff and recommended this locally brewed beer (on tap by the way). Probably my favorite beer of the entire journey around Belgium. I wish it was available in the USA. The blonde was also available but did not have the complexity of taste as the brown.

Big coarseish offwhite lasting head. Hazy amber body. Spicy herbal aroma with cinnamon mealy notes. Dry-sweetish spicy fruity taste with grassy herbal notes. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Light body. Delicate and harmonic. Dry mealy fruity herbal aftertaste with honey notes lingers for a long time. Very, very nice, and dangerously drinkable. (0.33l bottle, Bistro de Pompe, Bruges.)

Nice malty stuff, Belgian yeast, lots of sweet flavour, but lacking any kind of inventive hoppiness to lift it. They should work a bit more on this.

Bottle. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is dried fruits, alcohol, spices. Flavour is sweet, alcohol, cellar notes, malt, dried fruits, spices. Full bodied nice beer.
