330ml Bottle. This pours a loose foamy tan head over a deep brown body with an average amount of lacing. Its aroma is almost non-existent with maybe the faintest hint of dark fruits and wheat. Its taste, as other have said, is very light for a dubbel, but there is a subtleness to it. a bitter start quickly moves into sweetness followed by dark fruits, caramel and maybe a hint of liquorice with a bitter finish. This beer is the darker brother of the ordinary Bruges Zot and the similarity is definitely there. On a night out I would prefer the lighter version, but on a cold night a couple of these would warm you nicely!

Decent beer. Definitely better in bruges ... Brown in appearance with a heavy head. Think taste with Carmel flavor

At the brewery in Brugge after the canal tour. Nice, hazy brown with large head (tan). Aroma of subtle malt, cracker and melonoidin. Taste is restrained and thin. Lacks the complexity that i love in a dubbel.

AT the brewery; pours a brownish/amber color. Not alot from the aroma. Taste was somewhat sweet, though the alcohol definitely came through on this one. Overall, an OK beer but not nearly there best

Gifted 330ml bottle. Pours a reddish brown colour with off-white head. Sweet caramel aroma. Taste also caramel, brown sugar, noticable alcohol.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2014 Bottle. Pours a slightly red cola colour with strong foam head. Aromas are hearty and sweet, everything is in there: subtle sweetness of kandij (rock candy), triple-like yeast, barley wine, small hints of raisins and cherries. Deep whiff gives off a little salmiak. Very well balanced. Taste is very earthy, sensation resembles liquid whole wheat bread/rye. Salmiak is relatively strong, flows into a nice bitterness with slightly boozy aftertaste. With some of the stronger Trappist beers, you only care for drinking a single one (due to the overwhelming taste). Not this one. Great bear to have all through a hearty winter meal.

Bottle at home - pours copper with off white head. Fruity, yeasty aroma. Taste is of malt and fruit cake.

A dubbel style beer like so many others. This one is very smooth and no flavour ever gets on top, very balanced, but also a bit boring. Nothing that makes this one stand out. Its slightly roasted, faint caramel taste and a smooth finish. Nice beer.

Dark successor of Brugse Zot with a light yellowish beige, mousse-like head on a dark chestnut robe. Aroma of bitter chocolate, hazelnuts, figues, plums, vague spicy notes. Malty, dryish taste, dried fruits, ending in a grassy hop bitterishness. Very cliché dubbel.

Een dubbel is normaal een bier met goed wat smaak, dat is echter het geval niet bij deze. Jammer
