Large 750cl bottle shared with the loving wife. Actually if she loved me more she would have let me drink the lot :-) She enjoyed it too much so Iíll have to get another couple of bottles and hide them. Great warming chocolate, toast, aroma. Rich and brooding, black, hazy, and very frothy. Sweet and acceptably so.

Dobre piwo, piana puszysta ze az sie wylewa z kielicha. Typowa dla belgijskich piw. Kolor brazowo-bursztynowy. Lekkie zmetnienie. W smaku toffi i karmel. Alkohol ukryty i nie wyczuwalny. Finisz wytrawno goryczkowy, lekko owocowy.

On tap in the brewery in Brugge (Itís amazing how much brewery fresh beer tastes). Nutty receding head with some hints of caramel and roasted malt. I found it better than the blonde offering.

Tap at tíBiertje Brugge. Dark brown creamy tan head. Very malty aroma, earthy and slightly molassesy. Dark plummy malt but also some light vineous fruitiness behind it. Cherry, plums, and raspberry. Earthy and fruity. Well-balanced, easy-drinking dubbel.

Nice brown color, could have been a little darker. Normal smell and good taste. Palate very good. ABV prefect for this beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
75cl bottle. Clear brown with huge head.
NOSE : tart, toffee, raspberry, yeast, candy, cooked fruits.
SIP : medium body, decent carbonation with creamy texture. Sweet tart flavor on the start with a background of burned caramel and malts. The burned taste becomes more and more bitter. Very complex fruit notes mingle well with black chocolate like feeling. Further on it develops some more bitter, earthy flavors and some more raspberry like sour twist. Itís like there are two separate layers of flavors that donít mix yet they play well together. Hop are revealed in the end with floral nuances. The bitterness in the aftertaste is more like a burned coffee and apple seed and clove.
OVERALL : I didnít expect that at all. Itís by far one of the most exciting Abbey Dubbel I have ever tasted. Smooth texture and complexity from both malts and hops is quite unique. Nice one.
