COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered. Keg.
Brugse Zot Dubbel is a dark brown beer, inclining towards ruby red. It is brewed with six special varieties of malt, which give the beer a rich and distrinctive aroma. One can discover the scent of honey, almonds, chocolate and brown sugar. By using the Czech Saaz hop from Zatec, the beer has a complex palate of roasted malts and a distrinctive flavour. Brugse Zot Dubbel is known to leave a warm glow in the mouth with a bitter and hoppy finish, leaning towards liquorice and coffee roast. Bottle conditioned.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, sugar, Saaz hops, yeast.

A dark amber pour with a khaki head. Very metallic and off-putting aroma. Tons of prune juice, some toasted malt, a hint of roast, and dark fruit sweetness. A bit of spice and yeast, too. The flavor is quite metallic as well. Very heavy on the roast and prune notes, which is not pleasing either. A bit of cocoa, some mild clove spiciness, and some toasted bread.

Bottle. Dark brown with light beige head. Aroma of dark bread, caramel, candi sugar, dried fruits. In taste lightly sweet, toasted bread, raisins, berries, toffee. Medium body, pearl carbonation, finish is bitter-sweet. There are more complex dubbels, but this is quite ok, simple and drinkable.

Donker roodbruin van l l Europa, crčmekleurige schuimkraag met grote bellen, veel koolzuur zichtbaar. Aroma: Donkere fruit, Zoetig, karamel, honing, mouten. Smaak: Licht metalig, donkere geroosterde mouten, karamel, bruine suiker, siroop, iets chocolade, licht kruidig en een lichte bitter. Voornamelijk erg zoet. Body is licht, beetje waterig, veel koolzuur en de afdronk is zoet en plakkerig.

Hatalmas, tartós, bézs hab, sötétbarna szín. Enyhe, malátás, karamelles illat. Karamelles, pörkölt malátás, aszalt gyümölcsös, enyhe likőrös ízek. Közepesen keserű és szénsavas, közepesen testes.

Bottle at home. Pours dark brown/hint of ruby with a big foamy tan head. Lots of caramel on the nose, and into the taste. Lots of malt, hint of dark fruit and figs, good full mouthfeel. I like this, but it’s not complex. It’s much bigger and bolder on draught at the brewery.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2016 Huge dark tan head. Nose of candied orange zest, caramel, chocolate, raisings, brown sugar, dried plum, spice and chocolate icecrea. Medium sweet + light bitter + lighter sour, less sweet on finish. Creamy texture, high carb, very light alco warmness on finish. Lovely!

It gives a nice appearance. Nice beige head, carbonation is good. The taste of (caramel) sugar is a bit too strong. This fades a bit after a couple of hits. Otherwise an interesting beer. But certainly not the best of Belgian beers. This brewery makes also Straffe Hendrik. Which deserves a better rating.
