In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Brown bottle, 33 cl, best before July 2009, via Importations Privées Bièropholie, savoured on January 19 2008; eye: copper, clear but full of suspended matter, white head that disappears rapidly, no effervescence, no lacing; nose: yeast, citrusy, malt, light horse; mouth: carbonation, malt, slight hops, yeast present throughout the sip, quite carbonated finale in caramelized malt with itchiness on the tip of the tongue, banana comes out of nowhere after the finale, lightly sweet and bitter, medium body, a bit thin; overall: correct FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 33 cl, meilleure avant Juillet 2009 via Importations Privées Bièropholie, savourée le 19 janvier 2008; œil : cuivrée, claire mais pleine de flocons en suspension, mousse blanche qui tombe rapidement, pas d’effervescence, pas de dentelle; nez : levure, citrique, malt, léger cheval; bouche : carbonatation, malt, très léger houblon, levure présente tout au long de la gorgée, finale très carbonatée en malt caramélisé avec picotement sur le bout de la langue, banane qui arrive de nulle part après la finale, légèrement sucrée et amère, corps moyen, un peu mince; en résumé : correct

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of yespr/Ungstrup. Clear, golden with a tall, dense, white head that leaves some laces. Fresh and lightly floral aroma. Medium-bodied with lightly sweet malts and some fruitiness. Weak notes of yeast. No bitterness. Very quaffable. 120108

Bottle. [Great two day tasting session @ Papsoe] Large fin egg-white head that mostly lasted. Clear flat looking body with a pale yellow color. Aroma of light grainy and dusty notes. Hint of fruit and citrus. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Light sweet and hint of bitter flavor. Sweet fruity finish.

Bottle. Pours hazy, bubbly orangey yellow, white head. Aroma is hops (somewhat skunky), malt, slight sage, faint cheese. Flavor is hops (crisp, bitter), grass, metallic (aluminum), malt.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor, Colorado Springs, CO. Pours sparkling and hazy yellow with an average, fizzy, white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw), average hops (grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, barnyard, earth) with notes of banana and coriander. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
