In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Bottle bought at Carrefour. Pours hazy dark yellow with a big white head. Taste is malty, sweet, spiced, bit bitter in the back. Not a great beer to be honest.

Tasted in Brugge. Appearance is decent enough. Nose is a bit citrussy with some spices. The palate is ok, however it’s a bit too plain for me. As mentioned below, a bit ’lagery’.

Bit to lagery for my liking almost pilsner like crisp sweetish malty with that Belgium taste in the background. Bottle at home should have chilled it down more would probably improve it.

gEUS (1425) - Linden, BELGIUM - MAY 25, 2015
on tap at Zevende Hemel Bruges. Pours clear golden with a decent white head. Aroma is pilsner malts and some metallic flavour that seems a bit off. Medium body, malty a little sour touch (pasteurisation effect)? Mèh.

Foam: frothy white. Colour: cloudy orange yellow. Aroma: yeast, sour fruit, spice. Taste: malty, a bit sour, hoppy, spicy, bread on the tongue, grassy, high carbonation, light body, very refreshing ale, but not pronounced flavour, light citrusy, not my style but OK!

The beer has a beautiful color, clear golden orange. The beer is fizzing livingly. The smell is nice. It is sweet and bitter, really nice. The taste is nice. It is a great blonde beer, bitternes in the back of the tongue and a nice sweetness in the front of the mouth. The beer is really nice together with a tasty meal. The beers flavors change with every bite you take, so they perfectly enhance eachother. Realy nice blonde beer.

Mooi blond biertje met een goede kraag. Smaak is niets op aan te merken, een prima biertje

UPDATED: APR 27, 2015 2015/04/26 - On tap at De Halve Maan brewery in Brugge. Pours a hazy orange straw colour with a thick, fluffy white head that lingers and leaves a ton of lacing. Aroma is yeast, bread, banana, orange citrus, clove and coriander. Taste is cereal, banana, clove, coriander and orange. Mouthfeel is medium with slightly biting carbonation and a drying, mildly citrus finish. Very enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden color slightly opaque with various sediments. White cream that high fashion, but with little durability. The Aroma shown with little "power" in this Belgian, but is slightly sweet surrounded by citrus, lemon, tangerine peel, cloves, cinnamon, bananas, malts, bread. Nice feeling I can tell. The flavor tends to have a slight imbalance between sweet and bitter pulling mouth to a final dryness. This is done by the strong presence of hops.   This set is built on a solid foundation of Belgian spices such as cinnamon and carnation, and strenghten the shells of cereals, lemon juice, orange perennial and transcending an interesting bitterness. Your palate is medium and heated by alcohol. In short, dry and fruity with orange peel appearing and spices, has a carbonation a bit aggressive, but not displeased at all. Good beer!
