In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

In a bottle. Pours with dense microbubbles, leaving doily lacing behind. Maybe not world class beer, but a reasonable option. Not sure why this is rated so badly....OK feel on the tongue, pleasant.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2016 Big white-ish head, medium lacing, very clear. Aroma of fruit and spice: lemon, pepper, grapefruit, some light malt, caramel, clove, yeast, grass. Taste: light sourness with even lighter sweetness and bitterness upfront, light crisoy bitterness taking the top note towards finish. Fairly dry and crispy, high carbonation, some stickiness in aftertaste. Overall light and refreshing in both taste and aroma, nice in summer.

Bottle - pale yellow orange, decent white head. Medium carbonation though good mouthfeel. Lemony aroma, refreshing tasting, not overally strong for a Belgium - ok beer.

0.33 bottle. A clear, gold color with a large, fluffy, white head. A faint Belgian aroma: yeasts, spices, hints of metal and/or metallic water. Taste of hops, which make it moderately bitter, as well as yeasts, spices, and once again the inauspicious metal. A light body, a slick texture and a lively carbonation. A short, bitterish finish - inferior. Overall the beer leaves a lot to be desired, it is not even drinkable.

Large bottle at home. Amber-yellow with a pillowy white head. Aroma of straw and bready yeast. Slightly sweet with a gentle bitterness to follow. Quite lively, bready, grassy and a dry finish. Easy-going and quite drinkable.
