Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Nose of tobacco, cream, malt and some fruitiness. Taste - sweet, honey, hops, dry short. Amber colour, little to no head. Soft and silky mouthfeel.

Bottle from Ghent. Gold colour with a good head. An easy drinking Belgian ale, but nothing special.

Draught @ 9th Belgian Beer Weekend, Brussels. Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, moderate yeasty, fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (020907)

My Bottom Line:
Honeyed fruitiness seeps from the simple maltiness, as doughy yeast offers subtle plantanes to balance out a supporting hop bitterness. This Belgian Ale doesn’t carry enough substance to keep me entertained for more than a glass, but I cannot say it is severely flawed.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam lingers atop the pale golden, full of floaties.
-The finish is dry and somewhat mineral; simple and crisp.
-Carbonation is fluffy and expansive.
-Alcohol is tasted at 6%?!?
-The body is lean and made for sessions.
-A soft spiciness develops into furtive citrus fruit.

Bottle; best before July 2009.

Amber of color with a white head. An aroma of spice, sweets and notes of fruits. A flavor of sweets, spice, toffee and a bitter finish.

Impression: Rich malty + light fruit flavor belies its relatively low alcohol content. Pours deep golden/brown with an abundant head. As simple generic Belgian ale -- this beer is above average in complexity and in my opinion ranks highly amongst its style mates. would make a near perfect session beer.

Pours a hazed straw gold with a bright white head that does not stick around. Nose is like soap and light yeast. Flavor is sweet and smooth with a fruity tone to it. Strong sweet character. I really like the mouthfeel on this one. At first the carbonation was so alive that bubbles were bouncing on my tongue. Very drinkable. An easily sessionable beer...if not for the price.
