Commercial Description:

In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

On tap in Brugges brewery. Pale gold in color. Aroma of citrus and some hops. Thin mouthfeel with some spicy yeast and a mild hop finish.

Fairly disappointing, all fluffly and light without much aroma or flavor. It’s a slightly hazed gold with a foamy head. It smells of yeast and a very light, pale malt. The flavor has a little citric tartness added to it and it has a dry finish. Whoopty-doo.

Tap at the brewery. Golden color with floaters. No haze. Light carbonation. Leafy nose. A slightly skunky flavor. Not one of the better Belgians.

11.2oz bottle, Notched @ February 2009. Pours a hazy golden with many floaty chunks and a three finger fizzy white head. Aroma of some dusty hops, mild oxidation, doughy yeast, spice, a bit of lemon and banana. Pretty sweet smelling. Up front is an off taste that I can’t describe--kind of overly sweet and past its prime old--with some paper and a dry finish. Highly carbonated, lighter in body. Not too good.

Bottle at home. Orange, skunky taste. Sweet and citrusy. Spicy. Much carb, in the mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Bottle. Amber beer with a huge off-white head. Sweet malt aroma with yeast and some spiciness. Yeasty, spicy flavor. Very dry. Lingering yeast. Very high carbonation.

Bottle - unfiltered. A dry pale ale with spice notes from the yeast. Moderate carbonation. So dry this could be a strong lager. The interest comes from the yeast notes. The malt is too clean to be interesting, and the hops are lager hops and quite dull. Faint citric notes. Less than average beer.
