In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

On tap and in bottle at the brewery in Bruge; overall an OK beer. I didn’t see why all the awards. It was quite carbonated for my liking. Overall a good beer but nothing special

Blond beer with a white head. Malty sweet aroma and taste. Fruity, sweet, no hopps and above all as boring as a Leffe. I don’t understand why this beer has become so popular.

What a change from all these pilseners I’ve been having. A strong aroma, but a dose of paint. The flavor is not as spicy as the aroma. A little sugar, plenty of malt. Very cloudy with tons of chunks. A decent beer.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 Had at the Halve Maan or however it is spelled in Brugge. Seemed OK, I would need to try again but it just doesn’t grab you. Serving: Tap

Poured a bright gold color, lots of tiny bubbles, with a white head that lasts. Aroma is a strong pilsner-like malt, grassy hops, and typical Belgian yeast. Well-balanced flavor. Mild sweetness with low bitterness. Excellent carbonation, drinkable, a real thirst quencher. I could drink this all day long.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are malt, yeast, fruits and hops.

On tap at the Lowlander in London. It poured a hazy yellow liquid with a small white head. Flavour of yeast, apples, pears and other fruits. Semi smooth mouthfeel, light-medium body and high carbonation. A decent blonde that lacked some taste and the balance was slightly off. The bitterness was a bit to strong and the fruity sweetness couldn’t quite match it.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-straw color with lots of floaties. Nice rocky white head with moderate retention and lacing. Typical Belgian aroma of banana, clove, bread and yeast. Flavor is Belgian yeast, grain and honey. Moderate alcohol burn and slightly dry finish. Drinkable, but far from the top for the style.

On tap at Lowlander, London WC2. Golden with a slight white head. A Sweet Belgian ale with a herbal edge, mandarin notes and touch of floral hop. Fine.
