In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Filtered:Small white head. Hazy amber body. Spicy fruity seeds of paradise aroma with Belgian yeast profile and earthy coriander notes. Delicate and harmonic. Dry-sweetish banana and licorice taste with seeds of paradise and coriander notes. Sharpish, fizzy mouthfeel. Light body. Dryish mealy licorice and coriander aftertaste. Nice, drinkable, not terribly remarkable. (0.33l bottle, Tante Marie, Bruges.) 7,4,6,3,13=3.3

I drank so much of this in Bruges. Lovely blond. Yeasty breadiness, a little spice and grass. Pours hazy blond/orange, pillowy white head. Very drinkable.

Pours a hazy orange-brown body with a thin, bubbly and quickly disappearing near-transparent head. Some sediment roaming around in my Trappist chalice. Looks interesting. Nose is light, with hints of yeast and banana being principal elements. Taste is also very light and refreshing; this is highly drinkable. Banana, yeast, citrus, molasses and hints of chewing gum. Kinda sweet, but not too much. A nice little Belgian Ale, not very memorable but very pleasant nonetheless.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6%. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, huge and long lasting white head. Pleasant aroma of Belgian ale yeast with distinct spicy and some fruity notes. The flavour is fairly crisp and moderately spicy, yeasty notes, not very sweet. Moderate hops.

Clear yellow with a good frothy head. Aroma is just slightly of light fruit such as pear. Taste is a bit spicy and light and a bit of bitterness with the finish. I drinkable beer, but nothing stands it apart from many others.

Draft sample at Poatersgat. Clear gold in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of pale malts, honey, mild earthy hops and a touch of spicy yeast. Pale malts are strong on the palate initially, but things dry out very quickly, leaving notes of mineral, and earthy cooking spices. Not bad at all overall.
