In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Draft sample at Poatersgat. Clear gold in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of pale malts, honey, mild earthy hops and a touch of spicy yeast. Pale malts are strong on the palate initially, but things dry out very quickly, leaving notes of mineral, and earthy cooking spices. Not bad at all overall.

Dirty amber blond pour in the glass. Nose is sweet candied apples and malt. Taste is Initially strong raisins and buttered toast with very light hopped watery finish.

This is a particle filled deep golden color with a white cloud type head. You will find yeast, buttered bread, and a tinge of alcohol. On taste, this is a refreshing belgium that has notes of much the same with a more forward presence on the tongue. The finish reminds me of a buttered chardonnay wine.

Shared this one w/SkyCop32. Pours a medium golden yellowish color. Aromas of fruit, yeast and some pepper. Flavors are sour, yeasty, and a touch of sweetness at the finish.

Hazy gold pour with a fizzy white head. Cereal, bisquit malts and grassy hops on the nose. Flavor is much of the same. Kind of bland and thin. Meh.

Draught at TND: Aroma of pale malt, slight hops, and slight spice. Poured yellow/amber/gold in color with a medium-sized, loose, white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of pale malt, slight hops, slight grain, and light Belgian yeast. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Pale malt finish is dry.

On tap at the brewery. Hazy gold, unfiltered. Lots of cereals, quite sweet. Pleasant, yet not spectacular. Sourish finish.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2011 Re-Rate at Bluebird. Vastly better this time. Lots of citrus and soft Belgian esters. Much more fresh and robust. Pops with hoppy character. Big upgrade. Bottle sampled at Glunz Expo. Pours a cloudy yellow-brown. Nose is restrained, pils malt and slightly phenolic. On taste, pretty bland. I’m having a hard time pulling anything particularly distinctive out. Lack character. Meh.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2011 Bottles from The Cave & Beers of Europe. Sweet fruity, yeasty & malty aroma. Golden amber colour with a frothy head. Sweet, flowery, fruity malt flavour. Great artwork and history. One of my favourites.

On tap in SF at La Trappe Belgian Restaurant. Nice head. Very smooth for a strong beer. Had a malty aftertaste that kept me wanting more.
