In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Bottle at Lord Rodney, Keighley. Refreshing with an instant burst of lemon that stays with the finish. Fresh, early-morning aroma. Very easy drinking. Good stuff.

Cask at the New Oxford in Salford, near Manchester, Belgian Beer Festival. Cloudy dark browny gold. Notes are rubbish as I was very drunk by this time. I liked it though, needs a re-rate.

Pours a dirty straw/gold color, cloudy with a an initially large fizzy white head, but it fades fairly quick. Aroma is quintessentially "Belgian ale" to me. Hay, lemon, dirt, grass, coriander, it’s got some things in common with wits and saisons, but it’s not as peculiar as either. Flavor is similar with dirt, grass, earth, old citrus, and slighty spicy yeast. Finishes with bread, lemon and lingering yeast pungency. Thin and fizzy mouthfeel. It’s pretty decent, almost like a maltier pilsner brewed with Belgian yeast. Maybe that’s exactly what this is...

750 ml 2007 bottle split in Duvel glass. clear golden with lasting white head and lace. Enticing and assertive spicy yeasty zesty floral aroma. Very mild honey sweetness with with apricot/cantaloupe fruitiness and spicy dry finish with a little carbo bite and some wateriness. Quaffable, almost to a fault. The flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma. But still, very good. I could drink this all night.

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a murky medium dark orange with a thin, but long lasting white beady head. Fruity aroma with some prune-like accents. Flavor has some of the same pruney accents, with some yeasty notes, a bit of candied sugar, and kind of an unpleasant stale taste. Moderately thick mouthfeel. Middle of the road Belgian.

Cloudy golden colour with a white head. Sweet malty, light grainy aroma with fruity and yeasty notes. Malty, sweet flavor with fruity and floral notes.

On tap. a light yet slightly sharp aroma. Typical Belgian taste good enough but not especially unique. Almost a wheat taste.

Bottle, Beer Ritz, Leeds. Poured a slightly hazy golden colour with a smallish white head. Yawn. Aroma was stale cheesy farts, some hop and yeast. Not the nicest. Some grassy hop in the flavour, but a nasty metallic twang was evident that blighted this for me. Somewhat lager like in character and very disappointing.

on tap at papago... crystal clear gold color with a small white head. not a whole lot going on in the aroma... mostly yeast with grass, earth and some faint spiciness. flavors of yeast, spice, grape-like sweetness with a dry twig-like bitterness on the finish. as it warms a "corked wine" aroma and flavor appear... very odd. medium body with low carbonation.
