In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Dark golden coloured brew. OK taste. But a bit of lactose seems to getting through. Misses a boost.

Brugse Zot has a thick, off-white head, a minimal amount of lacing left behind, and a semi-clear, golden appearance, which goes to milky gold-tan, when the bottom dregs are fully swished and poured in. The aroma is of sweet, light malt, and the flavor is of that, along with mild bitterness, grain husk, lemon juice, sugar, and some sourness. Mouthfeel is medium (or, even fuller) and very prickly from the carbonation. Brugse Zot finishes similar to champagne. RJT

De Halve Maan Brouwerij also makes this beer. Unlike their Straffe Hendrik brand, this is a 6% blond beer. Fresh, sweet and light; but still with the excellence this brewery is known for.

Hazy gold beer, good size pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and minerally crisp. Airy dry pale malts, trace of cream. Sweetish banana esters and a very light touch of sweetish fruits and citrus. Airy dry finish. Okay.
