In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Poured from a bottle into a Brugse Zot glass. Golden, transparent color. Only the faintest head formed. A very light smelling beer. A hint of pear and other fruits. Taste: Slightly malty, some bright fruits and just clean tasting. Overall subtle flavors but still good. Light and crisp with moderate carbonation. Great beer. Very drinkable, goes down easy but with some nice flavors. All the notes are subtle but still appreciated.

Pours slightly cloudy golden with a pale foamy head. Aroma is hops, citrus, ginger. Tastes light and refreshing, smooth and hoppy with hints of citrus and a light spiciness.

12oz bottle into chalice. Pours a slightly opaque straw-gold with a large, fluffy, white head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lace. Grain hop notes, a bit grassy, slight fruity nose. Light and crisp, with slightly bitter flavour, a bit soapy though. Quite alright.

Bottle at home. When I drink, I’m often too busy chatting or texting or messing about. So no, I didn’t keep a note for this beer either. I’m sorry okay.

Draft at Leonardo Hotel, Brugge. Refreshing, clean, with a pinched of spice. One of a bettered Belgian Ales I’d say. Session.

A golden blond one. Dry taste, hoppy, citrus and spicy which lasts long in the mouth.

Tap at Breydel de Coninc, 29th October 15. Pours pretty clear, nose is Belgian yeast, fresh. Taste is refreshing, slight citrus, Belgian yeast. Pretty good straight forward Belgian ale

Bottle @ Buitenlust with Thomson. Looks reasonably clear and light with lots of bubbles. Smell is quite neutral with some malts in there. Tastes like that as well with a slight hint of bitterness although not unpleasant. Overall, just a solid beer worth noting.

33 cl bottle bought at local store. Hazy golden color and fluffy white head that decays slowly. Unexpected aroma of grain and hops, backed by a subtle fruity scent. Bitter taste dominated by hops and grains, unlike other Belgian blondes. A hint of citric flavor follows. My first encounter with a "brugse", therefore my surprise, possibly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear, golden. White, coillapsing head. Spicy, slightly peppery nose. Dry, slightly bitter, citrusy tastes. A strong metallic taste predominates the back of the palate and lingers as an unpleasant aftertaste.

Blond/goudkleurig, iets troebel bier. Aroma’s van hop en graan. Smaakt licht citrus bij de eerste slok, licht bitter en wat hoppig wanneer het bier eat langer in de mond gehouden wordt.
