In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Troebel goud bier. Duidelijk aroma van citrusvruchten. Droog, bitter en lichtzoet in de mond, voldoende complex, maar drinkt makkelijk weg. Goed zomers bier.

Has a delicate fruity aroma, tiny notes of strawberry. It’s clear, golden color, with nice head and great lacing. In taste it’s a little bit sour and very very refreshing.

I had this at my sisters house. Pours gold with a white head. Taste fruity, belgian yeast, sweet. I thought this was good. I could drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The Brugues ’city beer’ and a successful new start of this old brewery. Yellowish white, finely structured, sticky, dense and stable foam, colour a golden peach blonde, misty. Yeasty and fruity aroma of orange, green apple, peach, bread, caramel, ginger, straw, cardboard. Fruity, lightly malty taste, some green apple, bit grainy, bit yeasty, finishing in a short but balancing hop bitterishness. Almost like a lighter version of Duvel. Certainly not the worst of these middle strength Belgian blondes suitable for tourists in outdoors cafés.

330 ml bottle from A Taste of Belgium Restaurant in Palm Beach, Aruba. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Slightly yeasty nose has a slight tropical fruit note. Upfront, flavor is tart earthy malt with more yeasty notes. Complex malt character. Dry bitter finish. Very tasty.

Bottle @ Firehouse, Sowerby Bridge. Slightly hazy yellow-blond (mainly yellow) with a small frothy head. Has a nice light wheat aroma and a fair taste in this respect.

Bier met niet zoveel smaak aan. Ik vond het een teleurstelling. Net als de dubbel en de bock eigenlijk

It’s a good beer, nothing really special, just a good beer. Malty taste in the mouth and the aftertaste.

Helder donker goud, bijna witte kraag. Vrij fruitig en smaakvol, met wat gist en kruiden. Vrij droog met en lekker bittertje en goede carbonatie.

Draught in Brugge. Pours very slightly hazy golden with small white head. Clear aroma of yeast and hops, with subtle fruity and malty notes. Slightly vinous onset, leading to sweetish, estery and fruity notes, ending rather dry and sourish. Okay but nothing really extraordinary.

Draft @ 2011 & earlier in Brugge. One of my earliest ratings but this wasn’t on RB yet back then. “Much better on tap, more balanced, sweeter, less bitter, yeast, slight fruit (pear & apple), light floral.” Nothing really outstanding but def. way better than the industrial tasting bottles.
Earlier Rating: 3/14/2011 Total Score: 3.3
tap@ZBF 2011: much better on tap, more balanced, sweeter, less bitter, yeast, slight fruit (pear & apple), light floral /// bottle@bar: average to slightly before standard Belgian Ale that plays it safe with an overemphasis on bitter hops in the finish, clean, some spice, cool story, not interesting beer, remember this being more interesting a while ago (rating for tap version, the better version)
