In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

330ml bottle from the Cheese & Wine Shop Darlington. Pours a slightly hazy light gold amber colour, bubbly white head and aroma is yeasty, malt, lemon, pear. Sharp initial bitterness with lemon rind taste, malty, bready and yeast notes, through to a residual dry sourish bitter finish. Nice, quite drinkable.

Drank this beer many times at the Buitenlust. Very nice Belgian blond: yellow - golden colour, decent white head, smell and taste malts, yeast, lightly bitter.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2014 Bottle and rap at a few cafés today. Clear blond pour with Nice white head. Aroma is fresh, cerealy, quite grainy in a pleasant way. Taste is grainy, very light hoppiness, very dry and refreshing. Quite pleasant belgian ale actually.

Poured @the brewery, unfiltered. Hazy dark blonde. Nose is (pils) malty and hoppy. In the taste the hoppy bitterness dominates. I miss the balance of the old one where you note a little bit of coriander. Refreshing though.

330 ml bottle. Pours amber with huge head and lots of carbonation. Aromas of cooked malts, light coriander, and citrus. Flavors are similar with a light hoppy bitterness. Nice session ale for a hot day in Brugse.
