In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Sampled in Germany. Standard Belgian flavor but not a whole lot going on. Malty, carbonated, sweet finish. Much more complex Belgians are available.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2015 2015/04/26 - On tap at De Halve Maan brewery in Brugge. Pours a hazy orange straw colour with a thick, fluffy white head that lingers and leaves a ton of lacing. Aroma is yeast, bread, banana, orange citrus, clove and coriander. Taste is cereal, banana, clove, coriander and orange. Mouthfeel is medium with slightly biting carbonation and a drying, mildly citrus finish. Very enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden color slightly opaque with various sediments. White cream that high fashion, but with little durability. The Aroma shown with little "power" in this Belgian, but is slightly sweet surrounded by citrus, lemon, tangerine peel, cloves, cinnamon, bananas, malts, bread. Nice feeling I can tell. The flavor tends to have a slight imbalance between sweet and bitter pulling mouth to a final dryness. This is done by the strong presence of hops.   This set is built on a solid foundation of Belgian spices such as cinnamon and carnation, and strenghten the shells of cereals, lemon juice, orange perennial and transcending an interesting bitterness. Your palate is medium and heated by alcohol. In short, dry and fruity with orange peel appearing and spices, has a carbonation a bit aggressive, but not displeased at all. Good beer!

Me like it! Very nice aroma, fresh. Pours enormous white head, never saw anything similar. Almost nothing in the glass, just full of lovely foam. And it stays whole time, smaller but still present and I like it. It has very nice quite bitter finish which is what I also like in this type of beer.

330ml Bottle from Albert Heijn supermarket, Amsterdam:
A light, easy going beer with a good balance that fell short of being a classic Belgian offering but was refreshing, lively and quite crisp which helped it go down easily. I’m not sure it’s one that I’d go out my way to find again but it was an enjoyable offering and one worth trying if you happen across it.

Small free glasses after the brewery tour right from the brewery tap. Very refreshing, but nothing really special. Just a decent blonde.

Kolor jasno ?ó?ty, z?oty, do?? m?tny. Piana spora, z drobnymi p?cherzykami, do?? d?ugo pozostaje w szkle, topniej?c pozostawia ko?uch na powierzchni trunku. Aromat owocowy, w którym prym wiedzie brzoskwinia, morela. Piwo warte uwagi, w ko?cu to te? belgijska klasyka.
