In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Bottle. Pours golden, good foamy head. Smells of malts, fruits and hops. Taste starts sweet, a good bit of bitter kicks in and finishes sweet-ish, more fruity and malts. Nice balance between sweet and hoppy bitter.

From a 33 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a clear gold with a massively thick off white head. Somehat funky nose. Flavors of bublegum. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Decent.

Lasting frothy white head atop a sediment-filled brownish amber body. Yeasty nose with coriander. Pretty zesty flavour with a citrus base. Rather straight-forward Belgian Ale. It becomes more plump and fruity as it warms.

330ml bottle served in a tulip glass. Re-reviewed @ 2012.11.24. A: Pours a clear golden yellow to orange color forming a big bubbled and aired white head. Good retention and some spotty lacings formed and left in the glass S: Sweet and spicy in the nose. Candy sugar, cinnamon, cloves, orange zest, honey and flowery hops. Bready yeasts which are quite Belgian style T: Taste follows the nose: Sweet and bready upfront. Quite malty. Notes of candy sugar, honey, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, orange zest followed by earthy Belgian yeasts and some flowery hops M: Light to medium body. A little bit molasses. Good balanced bittersweet aftertaste O: Easy drinking beer which is, at the same time, quite complex. A classic Belgian Ale. Strongly recommended --- OLD REVIEW (on-tap): 330ml own tulip served from the tap at the Amsterdam airport. A: Pours a clear yellow to orange color with a big fluffy white head. Medium retention. No lacings S: Quite spicy to a lager Beer. Candy, honey and flowery hops T: Taste follows the nose. Not bad. Quite refreshing. Yeasts are also very much noticed M: Light to medium body. Good bitterness. Again, refreshing O: Good beer. Recommended [ BA Review @ 4/21/2011 ]

Bonne biere de Bruges, pas lourde et complexe mais non plus légère comme une Maes ou Jupiler. Meilleure en été, sûrement sur une terrasse sur un canal de la Venise di Nord.

Pours clear dark orange with a big off-white head. Quite apealling looks. First aroma that came to my mind was that of hand soap. Bits of floral hops, some malts far, far away... Disappointing. The taste is also not that appealing. Quite bland. Just only bitter (which isn’t that bad actually). A bit crisp in the aftertaste, but it lacks any further taste which makes it quite a dull beer. Watery mouthfeel and a very thin texture. Disappointment in general. Only some decent bitterness in the taste, that makes this beer quite drinkable... But that’s just it.

Fresh and fruity blonde with a light, but distinct hopping. Beautifully turbid peach-coloured with thick white foam, smells warmly of yeasts and vinosity. Balanced, slightly botanical taste.

Bottle (330 ml). Hazy golden/orange with a medium white head and good lacing. Aroma of cereals, herbal notes and light spiciness. Taste is also of cereals with a little more spiciness than in the aroma and herbal notes. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. A touch of alcohol too. Decent Belgian Ale, but not much more than that. A bit "hot" for a 6% abv beer. Ok drinkability.
