In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Bottle. Pours golden, good foamy head. Smells of malts, fruits and hops. Taste starts sweet, a good bit of bitter kicks in and finishes sweet-ish, more fruity and malts. Nice balance between sweet and hoppy bitter.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A clear brown orange beer with a large white creamy head. Medium retention. Fruity aroma (citrus), spices, herbal, caramel. Medium dry bitter, light sweet. Refreshing. Medium body, silky texture, fizzy carbonation, bitter finish with a sweet note. Overall, good experience : fruity, pleasant taste and palate.

At a cafe in Brugge by the old windmill. Mostly clear orange-yellow with a spicy aroma. Taste is bland and slightly biting. Moderate bitterness on the back felt disjointed from the rest of the beer.

Keg at Draft House. Dark yellow, hazy, slightly sparkling, small foamy off-white head … dense sparse lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with light lemon, very light wheat. Must be some wheat in this. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is light wheat ester, some lager, light straw and butter.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle. It pours a deep gold color with a tight white head. Nice mix of Belgian yeast aromas, light caramelized malt, candied citrus peel, and spice. Straight forward flavor profile. Citrus, yeast, and a light sweet flavor. Fairly high carbonation. Not bad.
