In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2015 Sweet, but fresh beer. Well balanced taste and nice body and carbonation. Although it doesn’t stand out, it’s a great Belgian beer, very enjoyable.

On tap in Bruges, having lunch in a nice little square. Quite some depth to the amber-gold colour. A fairly solid if middle of the road Belgian ale, some slight sweetness, a spicy hop, a moderately estery Belgian yeast flavour. Marketed very well throughout Bruges, distinctive labelling and quite suitable flavours to hit non-nerdy drinkers. Pleasant.

Drank with Marijn and Zico while eating olives 16-7-2015. Not a very special beer. A bit watery, lots of carbonation, bitterness is too dominant. Too flat for me.

Tap @Beer House No.1, Riga. Slightly hazy amber color. Medium size, thick white head, stays. Sweet and Belgian yeast dominates the aroma. Malty, sweet, faint smokiness at first. Later some rotten ham and metallic notes step in which I don’t like. Red currant and malts in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. I’ve had better Belgian Ales.
