billposter (4), bristol, Botswana does not count Aug 29, 2006 Sorry, but I really enjoyed this belgian brew. I enjoyed many bottles on my visit to Brugge..and back in London. This is my favorite beer of the moment. Easy to drink, refreshing, great aroma, possibly could do with a little more character and a longer lasting head, but tastes great nonetheless. Nice balance(to me) in a classic belgian way;ie not too hoppy and a little (not too much)sweet. Also great logo! Reminds me slightly of Radegast, my fav czech brew. reddragon (27), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Dec 28, 2007 Bottle: I think this is a rather underrated beer. A fine Belgian blonde with nice creamy head. Excellent pale color and aroma of citrus and malts. Some sediment in the glass, leaves little lace but has very nice flavor. Maybe should give it a try again in spring, not a cold weather beer. ALLOVATE (1127), Perth, Australia Aug 25, 2006 "I have seen nothing but fools here today, Brugges is one great lunatic asylum", a great unnamed man once said and the Brugse Zotten just exemplifies this in a pure, unpretentious and admirable way the people of this city must be proud of. For it is not foolishness, but rather a sense of pride. My first taste was of just another Blonde Belgian but after trying it on draught and in bottle throughout the old-town of Brugges and at the brewery itself I must say this is more a prized elixir than an average quaffer. Poured into its own flute it produces a short but dense pad of white that grips firmly to the glass articulately lacing as it goes. The body a sparkling medium gold with very fine intermittent carbonation. Spicy, fresh chopped herbs, chardonnay white-wine and orange and lemon peel make up the clean, summery waft that precedes each sip. Body is light but has that typically yeasty Belgian depth to it. Champagne-like carbonation bounces it across the tongue whilst the vinous, citric and peppery hop mix draw in the saliva. Hints of tangerines, oranges and limes, spruce and clove-like herbs, honey and a touch of clean toasted malt fill the mouth ending with a firm grip of spicy, zingy hops that ensure it ends all juicy. Not much length, but a nice light bitter/sweet fruit tang that fades off quickly. This was a Summer session ale, Belgian style. I liked it, and it was one of the few beers of my European tour that the wife loved too. A 5.0 on her scale, a 4.1 on mine. Cletus (3599), Connecticut, USA Jan 25, 2008 Pours a hazy gold with a generous white head. Smells of straw, meadows, some citrus, hints of grapes. Tastes dry with an underlying orange hint. Mouthfeel is full with a hint of sugar on the finish. MikeF (523), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2007 Impression:
Rich malty + light fruit flavor belies its relatively low alcohol content. Pours deep golden/brown with an abundant head. As simple generic Belgian ale -- this beer is above average in complexity and in my opinion ranks highly amongst its style mates. would make a near perfect session beer.
