In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Draught @ the brewery. Hazy orange to yellow beer with a large white head. The aroma is quite hoppy and spicy. Coriander and orange peel are quite obvious, also some dried fruits in the finish. The flavor is mellow, medium bitter and it has some sweetness on dried fruits, The palate is very smooth, soft and medium bodied. Very easy to drink.

Pours golden with a long lasting white head. Hoppy aroma and nice taste for quite a light beer. Light spicyness, very little aftertaste. Very balanced and drinkable.

On Tap. Pours a clear yellow/orange colour with good carbonation and a small size head. Can smell citrusfruits and spices there, mainly th citrusfruits though. Taste is also lemony and some other citrusfruits. Also there is some hops there and has a nice bitter taste. Goes down well, can’t taste any of the alcohol.

Enjoyed unfiltered two glasses at the Brugge brewery. Slight citrus note. Appears a very beautiful and cloudy golden orange. Lightly sweet and medium bitter taste. the finish is refreshing and kept me wanting one more drink. Just delightful. Average carbonation and light body. Filtered for bottling because customers prefer it that way. Too bad. It is just perfectly beautiful unfiltered. If you can, take the brewer tour. The guide is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable.

great for a blond. I love Belgian beer though. Good flavor, clean crisp, easy drinking for Belgian, for a light beer drinker, u get a good flavor, good strength, tasty all around well crafted brew. I like it and my wife had 4 of them. Totally nice all in all, good price, try it

On tap at the brouwerij De Halve Maan in Brugge on 12-08-10 (3,30 euro). Slightly cloudy, amber color with thin light head. Crisp, clean taste, almost like a Pilsner. Kind of like Leffe, but lighter and less body. Much prefer their other beers, but solid.
