3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 rlgk (5573) - Skövde, SWEDEN - AUG 20, 2007
Bottle, thanks to screwball. Hazy dark amber color, offwhite/brownish head. Roasted toffee aroma, mailky, some raisins, licorice, and with creamy candy notes. Malty flavor, a bit sourish and fruity, toffee notes, some chocolate and maybe some mint notes.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 LinusStick (2443) - Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 29, 2007
A rather thin and tasteless dubbel compared to what’s out there. Aroma of dark fruits but not very strong. Pour was a dark brown with barely a tan head of big bubbles. Taste was thin and unexciting. Could pick up prune, licorice and yeast but the yeast is very faint and the thin body brings out an alcoholic wine tasting burn. Reading other posts I wonder if I got a bad bottle? May try again.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thebeertourist (4060) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUL 22, 2007
Bottle. Clear mahogny, with a thick tan, creamy head. Nicely spiced caramel aroma with anise. Licorice flavours to the front, sweet and spicy. Dryish finish nonetheless. Oily and full-bodied. Very likeable, reminds me a lot of Cuvee van de Keizer, and that is meant as a compliment
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Papsoe (22948) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 8, 2007
(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a hazy, dark, amber golden with a beige head. Spicy aroma with some overripe fruit, yeast and alcohol. Rather full-bodied with sweetish, fruity notes, plenty of spices and a vague, metallic edge. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Quite lovely. 160507
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 bierkoning (8099) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - MAY 21, 2007
Licorice, salt and caramel in the aroma and flavor. Laurel. The salty character realliy dominates. Malty sweetish, but certainly not too sweet. Fairly well made, not a thirteen- in- a- dozen dubbel.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 6, 2007
(Bottled) Hazy, deep ruby red with a smallish, lemonadey and tanned, quickly fading head. Sweetish aroma of caramely malt, anise and dried fruit - like a lighter Rochefort 8. Sweetish, rye-puddingy-malty, anisey and fruity flavor with some balancing hop bitterness. Alcohol is completely hidden. Medium-bodied, slicky and slightly foamy-carbonated palate. A straightforward and easy, but quite balanced and enjoyable dubbel. Earlier Rating: 3/19/2006 Total Score: 3.4 (Bottled) Dark cola color with a small but lasting head. Vinous-caramely, oaky aroma. Burned-malty, sweet, flowery flavor with some sourish oud bruin character. Medium-bodied, slightly watery (or maybe too cold) with somewhat lemonadey carbonation. Too much color malt and too light body for my taste. ABV doesn’t show, though.
