omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden May 30, 2004 Bottled. Nut brown. Sweet, rich and malty. Roasty, woody with lots of almonds. Hoppy, salty finish. Excellent!
M0RHI (997), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Aug 14, 2008 Bottle from Auchan. After exploding all over my desk, despite having settled for a long time, this beer settled a dark ruby-brown with a thick beige head that disappeared quickly. Nose is yeasty, almosty sherberty in fermentation, sour fizzy hops with a healthy bread balance of barley. Mouth is slightly sweet at first, then develops into a well-brewed espresso with chocolate shapings, and some milky tones, some dark fruits of the forest touches. Bolstered on the swallow by the alcohol and a lasting taste of fruit, juxtaposed by the warm burn at the back, this beer doesn’t disguise its credentials, but doesn’t either ridicule its heritage. tiggmtl (4169), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 11, 2008 Very bready, fruity, nutty and sweet in the nose with thick sweet chocolate and some alcohol notable. Clear, deep, ruby-brown body is topped by a dense, fine bubbled tan head that recedes slowly to a partial cover. Sweetness up front is joined by vinous fruits and bittersweet cocoa. Moderate offsetting bitterness. Fruit and marzipan linger in the aftertaste. Medium full body with very bubbly carbonation that lifts the flavour and leaves it feeling lighter. Snifter. Just above cellar temperature. Bottle (BB Oct 2010, Brewery Creek, May-08). The_Jester (465), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 9, 2008 330 mL bottle. (bb 10/10). Dark ruby brown with a nice head that gradually fades to a film. The aroma was earthy, not sweet as I expected it would be, and there was a little bitter chocolate in there as well. The taste was fairly complex: bitter chocolate, anise, earthy, caraway seeds, some noble hops, and nutty at the end. Body was medium to full. Very smooth and dryish. Decent carbonation. BoBoChamp (618), Gent, Belgium Jul 22, 2008 33cl, from Geers Oostakker, complex brew, balanced, cloudy, good head, good brew Arayaga2 (745), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2008 Deep ruby color with tall, but quickly fading light brown head. Aroma is sweet and figgy with candi sugar and bubble gum notes. Perhaps it’s too cold, but it tastes a bit like an organic soda. Sweet, and fruity with prune, vigorously carbonated but too light and airy as a result. Carbonation throws it off balance, and screams for minerals or yeast character. $4/12oz
