larsga (2473), Oslo, Norway Nov 29, 2008 Instant beer fountain. :-( Medium brownish beige head. Hazy reddish brown body. Fruity licorice, caramel, and cardamom aroma with wooden anise notes. After a while the anise is the main aroma. Dry-sweet anise and cardamom taste with coriander and herbal notes, traces of plums, banana and soap, as well. Fizzy mouthfeel. The anise is really intense. Dryish peppery anise aftertaste. A bit cloying. Didn’t enjoy very much. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly, Oslo.)
yngwie (3893), Kristiansand, Norway Dec 30, 2008 Bottle. The beer tried to gush out over the table, but got all of it into the glass, where it presented itself with a hazy dark amber body under a thick, dense beige head. Lots of carbonation going on. Spiced nose with cloves the most evident. Dusty cellar, dried fruits and caramel too. Sweet in the mouth, with some alcohol, cloves, some cardamom, prunes and dades. It actually has some resemblance to gløgg or gluhwine. Cardamom, pine, alcohol, dried fruits and a little herbal bitterness in the finish. A bit thin on the body, but not watery, and with a fine effervescent feeling. A nice one, sure maintaining the Christmas spirit. A bit boring on the nose though. (081222) Dedollewaitor (2352), Odense, Denmark Dec 24, 2008 Bottle at poechenellekelder. Pours hazy reddish amber with a small creamy head. Nose is sweet and vinous. Caramel, yeast, clove and cinnamon. Smooth & full bodied. Warmth from alcohol. Nice. Crit (2270), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada Dec 23, 2008 Cloudy brown, lasting tan head.Salty spicy nose.Dark fruits, sweet malt palate.Light spice overtones. After initial explosion, lacks carbonation. I get no anise whatsoever. Very fruity with mild alcohol heat. thebeertourist (2060), Oslo, Norway Dec 16, 2008 From bottle at 14e Kerstbierfestival, Essen. dark red-brown, small head. Nice cardamom fruit aroma, with cardamom taking over in the mouth. JorisPPattyn (4690), Antwerpen, Belgium Dec 14, 2008 Small yellow head over dark amber-brown beer. Cloves, ginger, oriental spices, Szechuanpepper, <i>soit>/I>, the whole shebang. Malts, liqueur and all the spices mentioned above – I’d even say Chinese five spices. Pappy, sugary, slick, oops… Just a bit too sweet and overspiced, getting it caricatural.
