2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
33cl bottle, imported. A random pick-6 from my local bottle shop. Can’t really make out the bottle date, but it looks old and the "09" is marked, I assume a 2009 vintage. Initial pour has some carbonation & head, quickly dissipating into a flat ruby-brown mixture with yeast chunks. Really looks awful. Typical Noel beer aroma; lots of clove, cinnamon & nutmeg with burnt brown sugar. Flavor follows suit with cloying malt base and not enough hops bitterness to balance it all out. Slightly oily on the palate with light effervescence. Maybe past its prime.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Smell of cherry with dark amber color. Lot of foam. Taste wasn’t good, felt a little bit like they put some Tide in it. For an expensive noël Belgian beer i was disappointed.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Heavy, spicy Christmas Ale. Not very drinkable, tons of malts and spices. Weird mineral taste and flavour.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at the OBER Kerstbier festival, Essen 2014. Poured a murky medium brown with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is caramel, sweet malt. The flavour is moderate sweet with a light mineral aspirin earthy palate. Light bodied with lively carbonation.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aïïï, why this metal note…? Grrrr….. But then, you get a beer with a sour character, which surprised me, combined with again clove and star anise and other christmas spices. The body is medium and the carbonation too intense. Its ends with a licorice dry taste. A lot of controversial tastes though....
Not my beer, too distracting - I miss the clear line and a well balanced composition of the different tastes. It’s interesting, that’s true, but I won’t consider it on my christmas list.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Typical Belgian Christmas ale and typically overspiced. Light beige, creamy but rather thin head, bronze colour. Strong aroma of sweet fruits (banana, candied dates) enhanced with spices (star anise, coriander, cardamom), raisins, candi sugar. Taste kicks off spicy, which is usually a bad omen for the rest of the palate. Caramel malt sweetness, liquorice, some harsh bittery tones, finish lightly hoppy with warming alcohol, not well balanced. They should have kept the Saint-Martin Lumière d’Hiver, which was for more balanced and far more elegant, if I remember well.

16/IV/14 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: X/2014 (2014-369)
Clear red brown beer, big creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive. Aroma: lots of overripe banana, no really, just like a school bag banana after two weeks of daily walks to school and back with a bunch of books on it. Also quite some liquorish and aniseed that are enforcing the overripe banana smell. Some cloves, gingerbread. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: wow, easy on the spiced there, jack *sses... Nothing but spices here, liquorice, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, aniseed, bleurk... Aftertaste: unpleasant bitterness, cinnamon challenge, some chocolate, overripe banana, bit sweet. Very undrinkable. Used it to marinade my pork shoulder for pulled pork.
