Cask Handpump at the Brunswick, Derby 05/01/2007
Small white head. Dark coloured slightly rich on the palate and strong in alcohol with a fruity flavour. Some bitterness and dryness in a full malt finish.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 27, 2011
Gravicask at the Bricklayers Arms Derby Beer Fest. It pours dark brown, with a thin off-white film. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, coal and a bit of floral. The taste is roasted malt, raisin, cherry, light sour tang, chocolate, light spice and lactose, with a bitter roasted finish. Thin to medium body and soft carbonation. Not bad.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (4094) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 24, 2011
Gravity cask at the Bricklayers BF, London. Pours clearish brown with a small, bubbly head. Light to medium sweet flavor, light roast, mild fruits. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Faint roast finish, some semi-burnt finish. At first there was some parmesan cheese but it goes away. Very nice.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2009
Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 09. Thick dark, dark brown with very thin beige head. Some thickness in mouth, some choc, some dark fruit. Some dryness. Good thick mouthfeel.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 albertane (378) - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JAN 15, 2009
Cask at the Derby Winter Beer Festival 2009. This dark brown beer has a roasted coffee and slightly smoky aroma. The flavour has some dark fruit characteristics, including plums, but the flavour doesn’t quite live up to the promise of the aroma.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 berkshirejohn (3014) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - SEP 9, 2008
Cask at the Brunswick, Derby. Almost black with a ruby tint and a thin cream head; sour fruit aroma with damson and cherries; sweet vinous fruit flavours, with chewy sultanas; a dry roasted finish with licorice and leather. Very pleasing.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 23, 2007
Deep ruby coloured ale, clearish and topped by a minimal off-white head. Pretty candyish nose with barley sugary and beet sugar notes. As it warms, it becomes toffee-like and hints at port wine on top of leather… Obviously a complex range of subtleties, but never really more than a mellow, insufficient floral golding counterpart and rarely a presentation in unison of those fun individual flavours. Toasty more than roasty, woody, earthy and very sweet brew.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hughie (3992) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 26, 2007
Cask, gravity, at Milton Keynes Beer Festival ’07. Very dark red brown. Plummy aroma with dates and raisins. Sour fruity taste with spices and a medium bitter finish. Pretty useful.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 EnglishSpinner (1) - Woodhouse Eaves, ENGLAND - OCT 20, 2007 does not count
Surprising offer at the Griffin, Swithland, LE12. Unfamiliar with the porter style, so would class this as a heavy style stout, with aromas and taste of molasses but with a balanced rather than overpowering sweetness. Excellent drink for a perfect English autumn day.
