3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DruncanVeasey (5145) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, - FEB 8, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2011 1) Cask, The Crown, Nuneaton. Blackish with ruby tints and a dirty collar. Enticing charred malt and chocolate aroma. More of the same in the mouth, with added liquorice, coffee and roasted malt touches. Tasty, but a bit watery on the palate as the aroma implies a fuller bodied and roastier beer.
2) Post festival half at The Brunswick. Mahogany, flat tan skim. Lightly roasted aroma with black cherry and brimstone hints. Mellow and coal-dusted forest fruits taste; minerals and cocoa. Balanced. Pretty good. 737315.

[cask at the Brunswick Inn, Derby] Deep blackish/brown pour with maybe a touch of red in there. Good white head, lasts a long time. Ticks all the boxes in the classic British porter style – dark in colour, coffee, a bit of chocolate on the nose, lightly roasted taste - session beers don’t have to be straw-coloured and hoppy. Does lack a bit of body in the finish, but highly drinkable [18042009]

Cask at the Brunswick, Derby. This porter has some pleasant smoky and coffee characteristics but is too watery to be an especially good porter.
