Cask, Leicester Fest 10. Light gold with no head. Aromas are grain and mellow citrus with dusty notes and cardboard. Flavours are thin grain malts with citrus and some pear. Dry on the finish. Quite characterless.

Cask - The Brunswick Inn, Derby. Poured a pale, clear golden yellow with a lasting, small white head leaving a fair lacing. Lemon, honey, yeast, a Granny Smith bite and very subtle hint of sulphur. On the tongue, lemon and grassy hops with a restrained grassy bitterness in the finish. Light body, soft to medium carbonation and a relatively short finish. It seems as though this has got a bad rap but I didn’t find it that bad. In all, it’s a safe but acceptable golden.

[cask at the Brunswick Inn, Derby] Very light and inoffensive in the glass, pale and barely carbonated. Some citrus in the aroma, mild hop taste with more citrus on the palate. This is the dictionary definition of a British session ale – stick me in a beer garden with four or five of these and I’d be very happy, just don’t expect too much complexity from it. [21042009]

DruncanVeasey (5145) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2010
Cask handpull, The Brunswick Inn, Derby. Thin beaten gold with a white halo. Lovely Nelson Sauvin-like lychee and white grape aroma. Mouth shot through with lychee and vanilla ice cream; blackcurrant and aniseed hints, dry hop finish mellowing into biscuit (lemon puffs again). Lacks a bit of condition. Bog standard, slightly lovely, tangily hopped stuff.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2009 Cask, Brunswick Inn, Derby. *** THE MOST AVERAGE BEER IN THE WORLD *** How do I know? I drink it at least once a week. You want words, don’t you? Like a dirty whore; I’ll give you what you expect and you groan in the pre-destined places - pale, hoppy, refreshing, malt-smack, grass-lick,... fuck this. It’s the best beer in the world; fifteen minutes away from my home, half an hour away from my office, always in my heart. Neckable by the gallon, the true definition of an English session beer. Tainted here by all the sad fucks who only drink these beers at GBBF instead of getting off their arse and finding it out where it’s best.. where it’s best presented... WHERE IT’S BREWED... btw did I mention it’s the worst beer in the world? OMGWTFBBQ-eleventy-one!!!! Sometimes dear old Graham gives up, James is off and away and this becomes an embarrassing rank hole of a beer... OK, not undrinkable but still, not nectar dripped from the tit of Aphrodite. But, you know what? That’s what great beer is about for me. It’s great because it can be shit and then... it can be great again. It’s John Robertson, "the little fat guy", lashing in the 1980 European Cup winner for Forest. You don’t expect it; yet it delivers. Again. And again. I’ve enjoyed a shite-load of beers along the way here on ratebeer - way more than I’ve actually rated - but nothing comes close to the joy I have with this brew. Here is beer. "That’s a good out for you, son". Here endeth the lesson.
