3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Hazy gold. Bubbly, white head, that settles to a film. Bready, saison character. Some lemon. Some orange. Taste is dry, turning moderate bitter. Palate is light. A bit too much prickly fizz. Finishes short dry, and short bitter.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a spuermarket in Brussels. Pours a hazy golden color, topped with a generous white head that stays areound for some time. Pleasant fruity aroma, tropical fruits, with some wheaty and spicy notes. Some presence of yeast can be noted. Taste has a mild sweet start, followed by herbal hops and moderate bitterness. Slightly metal in the aftertaste. Ok, decent IPA.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cette bière est un peu un ovni. Arôme de pamplemousse, fruits de la passion. Une amertume bien prononcée, surtout en fin de bouche. Malgré son faible degré d’alcool, elle m’impressionne ! C’est fantastique !!!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Super hazy, golden blonde coloured body with a thinnish, half centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of yeast, coriander seed, wheat, hay, grass, alcohol and a good bit of floral hops - nice and pungent. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a large hop bite at first that shows a lot of astringent notes and hay/grassy flavours. Aftertaste shows a deep floral and grassy flavour with not too much depth and complexity, but a lot of dry notes, some alcohol, a touch of hops, but mostly yeastie. Overall, a good beer that is representative of the style, but definitely not the best beer i’ve had in this set. Still, great to try and well worth picking up if you can find it. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Louis DelHaize Grocery in Bruxelles, Belgium on 18-January-2015 for €1,89 sampled at home in Washington on 07-May-2015 - Best Before 05-November-2015 printed on bottle.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 28, 2015 Belgian IPA with thick, frothy, lacing, egg-white head, clearly hops-enhanced; colour a deep and warm ’old gold’, clear with relatively vivid sparkling supporting the head. Aroma does not activate the IPA part of my beer memory: more like a more than averagely hoppy Belgian ale... I get impressions of lime, tons of freshly cut grass, Granny Smith apples and Conférence pears, nettles and other weeds, slight but noticeable hint of melting plastic, straw, unripe peach, potato peel, something sweaty and something ethereal (mint, aniseed?). Crisp and refreshing onset, sourish fruitiness (green apple, unripe pineapple, sour gooseberries, starfruit) with a minerally carbonation, faint honeyish sweetishness in the background leading to a basic pale malt sweetishness, a bit grainy and in that sense more ’harsh’ than I had hoped for; spicy yeastiness builds the bridge to a finish, which, all things considered, is quite satisfying, with a long, peppery and spicy yet fairly earthy, drying hop bitterness, a very faint saltiness and some juicy malt sweetishness coming through. The flavour follows the aroma: with a lot of goodwill, I assume this could be considered an English-style IPA which may have been the intention and there is no doubt that technically, this is well made, but I was expecting much more from this, namely a citrussy, orangey, bold and ’biting’ American-style IPA, something I haven’t yet found among Belgian breweries so far, at least not in the way I like. This is a good beer though, very appetizing, and it does not discourage me in finding out more about this brewery, which I deem to be more innovative than the rest of Belgian breweries, a few exceptions notwithspoken. I was not impressed by this beer as much as I hoped to be, but if Ratebeer would ever consider acknowledging a ’Belgian IPA’ style, like Beeradvocate does, this would be a perfect example of it; still, I prefer the American style IPAs and - even more so - double IPAs.
