VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 15, 2008 330 ml bottle - pours a very light and slightly cloudy yellow with a small fizzy head that disappears quickly. Aroma of clove, coriander, some citrus and yeast. Flavour fairly standard wit stuff, but slightly sweeter, almost honey-like, and with a strange, not altogether pleasant plasticy aftertaste. Good, average wit, though far superior versions are available locally. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 14, 2008 Bottled. Very pale yellow, almost greenish, with a hazy texture like thick glass. Wheat, yeast, a bit of funk, some citrus in nose. Sweet right in the middle, almost tastes plastic, like someone dumped aspartame or sucralose in there. Very lemony without the sourness. I enjoyed drinking this, but something’s strange about this. A bit heavy in the body. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Sep 12, 2008 330 ml bottle, served at cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Bright yellow-golden, hazy, fair white hear.
Aroma: Lots of lemon and banana/pineapple, almost a fake lemon-lime, a bit of bread/yeast, sorta wheat.
Palate: Medium-ish body, fairly lively effervescence.
Flav.: More of the candy-drop lemon, a bit of banana/tropical fruit esters, some grain/wheat; off-dry with no bitterness and a slight lemon candy after-taste.
Not great. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Sep 12, 2008 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. pours pale yellow with no haze, ok minimal haze, small white head. aromas are of almost nothing, some wit characteristics. flavours are grainy and watery. not a good wit IMO. ill have to retry but ill only consider it because its only $2.05. wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Sep 11, 2008 Pours a pale hazy yellow with some alright white head that sticks around for the show. The aroma is of yellow banana Popsicles. The flavour is pretty good, light and refreshing, with banana cream pie being the most prominent flavour, a touch of spice near the finish. Watery mouthfeel but it works out ok. Nice and refreshing with enough flavour to stay interesting. JesseM (660), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Updated: Jun 6, 2009330mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours a really nice hazy white/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is your typical Wit characters, wheat malt and yeast and etc. Didn’t seem particularly interesting upon the sniff. But the flavour is actually quite good, at least to me and Wit’s generally aren’t my thing. Very nice sweet malt body with a touch of yeasty dryness in the finish. Very smooth for the style, with moderate carbonation, and that’s where this one really wins me over. Mild sour aspect to the finish and aftertaste as well. Nothing out of this world, but a great refreshing Wit that’s not as harsh to drink as a lot of others with more rough and excessive carbonation. I’m glad the LCBO finally released this one from captivity. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 31, 2008 330 mL bottle. (bb 05/09 and labelled at 5.5%). Not-quite-transparent lemon yellow with a small white head which quickly fades to a thick film. Aroma of wheat, lemon and sweet orange. Taste is quite sweet, with more citrus and a little spice but not much coriander. Not quite light-bodied and not quite crisp. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA Aug 5, 2008 Tried a bottle at the Rhino in Toronto, CA. First pour was an almost clear Corona yellow. Faired better when I emptied the bottle, as it became more of the typical witbeer cloudy. Little head and little aroma. Taste was weak and watery for a wit. Easy drinking for sure, but if you’re tempted, I’d suggest you stick with Hoegaarden.
