4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Ruby red body with a thin creamy head. Good lacing and decent head retention. Loads of citrus hops in the nose; some caramel and vanilla notes. The taste is bursting with juicy grapefruit and caramel maltiness; very floral. The finish has got some bitter grapefruit notes and a touch of caramel as well. Medium-bodied overall and drinks very easily and smoothly. Great IPA, it also tasted really fresh for obvious reasons.

Copper, grapefruit and melon aroma. A good hop bite, long finish with grapefruit zest. Yummy!

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 I really liked this beer vs. what other say. Its not a American version of an IPA. Its very British. I hung with a dozen British expats drinking this watching euro 2012.. They probably had 15 other beers on tap but stuck I with this because it was going down good. I like it...its more of a bitter but something we dont get a lot of in the states. I think Brutopia is underrated and a must stop especially if you are downtown Montreal.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2004 Rerate (5-21-04): Restrained but powerful hop aroma. Deep copper colour with decent white head that recedes to cover. Nicely balanced hop flavour with strong supporting crunchy malt flavour and restrained but definite bitterness. Wonderful, creamy mouthfeel. On tap at the brewpub.
Rerate (3/27/04 - 8-3-8-3-15=3.7) when bar was less smoky: Pleasant complex hop aroma - floral, herbal, citrus. Dark copper with small white head that has good lasting power. Strong bitterness and good strong hop flavour. A touch more balnced towards the hops. Would like to see a taste a bit more malt which would also punch up the body. Medium body. On tap.
Original rating (9/6/03) 5-3-7-3-13=3.1: Excellent hop bitterness but could use more flavouring and aroma hops. Head was not very long lasting and body is a bit on the thin side. Definitely the flagship beer for this brewpub. On tap.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Brutopia Montreal. Pours a clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is apricot. Taste is a subtle sweetness like a halloween molasses candy but offset by an assertive hop bitterness. Interesting IPA. Need to try again to complete the rating.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap. Pours a clear amber with a thick white head. Aroma of toasted, bready malt, jam, light fruits, floral hops. Flavor of spicy, bready malt, toasted malt, spicy hops, light grassy hops. Probably best described as a hoppy APA. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2004 Inviting amber color. Very floral and hoppy aroma. Nice after taste. I find this is probably the best beer this brewpub has to offer.

Amber colour with thin white head. Hoppy aroma with a malty, somewhat bitter flavour and hoppy finish. An enjoyable IPA.
