UPDATED: APR 11, 2009 I’m getting pretty good... This beer has a 1,5 style percentile. After I had it, I thought it was the worst Scotch Ale I ever had. Watery, unbelievably boring, sweetness is replaced by a slight displeasing sourness, no complexity whatsoever, and barely hoppy. I thought it was like 4 % ABV... Still waiting to taste a good brew from these guys and I am thinking about avoiding that place, although the staff has always been able to serve me in french, which I always appreciate in the Anglo parts of Montreal and is enough to have me go back there again (since their beers are a lot better than what they serve inside the Bell Center (Go Habs Go!).

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is light butterish and dry roasted malty, light caramelish. Malty, roasted and slight breadish malty. Ends dry, roasted and somewhat bitter.

on tap at brewery. pale brown-reddish with a disappearing beige head. aroma of berries (WTF) and grainy. toasted malts, hint of smoke (saweet), and some berries again...! citrusy finish along with herbal notes. very light body for a scotch ale. meh.

Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with an off white head. Hints of licorice, dark and mild roast y tones. Toast with light pear notes. Mild bitterness and a hint of wood.

Raw yeasty and sour, really found this and some other brews to be either under-built or else rushed from the maturation.

Draught at the brewpub. Nice clear dark brown colour. Small light brown head. The flavour is a little malty, slightly tart, but not a problem. Subtly buttery finish. Does not taste as sweet and strong as expected.

HogTownHarry (4872) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - OCT 19, 2009
Draught. Mondiale 2009 - day 2. Deep clear mahogany pour with an average creamy beige head. Nutty sweet roast caramel aroma, lightly floral, clean, if cloying. The taste is a bit weedy and dry, with some cheap cocoa powder adding to the off-putting bitterness, although I DID say it smelled too sweet ... Quite a solid body, no carbonation though, and the bitterness quickly overpowers the sweet malt and lingers too long. Smells okay, but not too great, no.

(Rating #1645)
