(Draught at Bruuveri on 2008-06-14) Cloudy. Orange colour with hints of brown. Big white head. Sour nose. Light palate with some carbonation. Hints of banana in taste that contains some salty liquorice, hops, and some sauerkraut(?). Slightly sweet.

Two separate listings as "Vaalea III" at the brewpub: 4.6% and 5.2%.

4.6% - Transparent gold, large-bubbled, white ring for a head. Nose of orange, caramel, tea, bit of root. Flavor has more caramel and root, light anise, light grain at front and grassy hop in the finish, which is sweet and a bit chalky. 636211

5.2% - Transparent gold with no head, oily wisps. More caramel than 4.6%, more toast and sugar as well. Flavor is sweeter, toasty with some banana, harshly stinging dryness in the finish that contradicts the simple, overly sweet profile. 525310

Draught at Bruuveri. Hazy wood/orange body, tiny white head. Vinegar & pickled cucumber on the nose, taste sour with a short finish.

Draught@Bruuveri, Helsinki. Murky orange-brown color, sort of like apple tea. Slight head. Juniper and malts in the aroma. Sahti-like sour flavor with malts in the background. Didn’t really like this one.

Tap at Bruuveri. Hazy/cloudy amber orange, dark for a hefe. Fluffy off white head. Nose is spicy, citric, hoppy fresh. Flavor is bitter, sweet & sour, marzipan, rosewater, spicy. Pretty damn far from a german hefeweizen. Lot’s of hops and closer to a bitter. tastes a bit like watered down Valamo 1 & 2. Strange brew. Not exactly bad, but it sure is not your basic hefeweizen.

oh6gdx (16047) - Vasa, FINLAND - JUL 26, 2008
Draught. Hazy orange colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is wheat, mild banana, spices, yeast as well as some earth. Flavour is earthy, wheaty, yeasty and also has some spices in it. Also a bit marsipan when you take a big mouthful of it at once.

larsga (4661) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 21, 2008
Medium white head disappears right away. Hazy opaque orange body. Fruity ketchup aroma. Dry-sweet ketchup taste with unclean acidic tomato notes. Hoppy floral aftertaste. Disgusting rotten sticky taste lingers. Awful. (0.25l draft at brewpub.)

FatPhil (6207) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUN 17, 2008
Draught (Bruuveri, Helsinki)
Rich cloudy orange, small light head. Sharp sour cidery vinegar aroma. Pickled onions in the taste at first. When desensitised to the that, there is a reasonable wheatiness that breaks through, and is quite pleasant, so this does have potential. Should re-rate.
