What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevadaís Grossman Family and Russian Riverís Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different:

The liquid manifestation of change over time.

Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.

750ml 7/25/12 (Whole Foods-Austin)- Sniftet-Pours a hazy golden amber with a loose white head. Aroma of brett, funk, and hops. Taste of the same with some citrus. This medium to full bodied brew is not as powerfull with Brett but still darn tasty.

The aroma is funk, earth, lemon. The appearance is hazy orange, fluffy white head. The flavor is earthy, lemon, lemon rinds. The finish is sour, salty, lemon. Medium in body, slightly thin, lot of carbonation. Thereís nothing really wrong with this beer. Not bad, not very interesting. Maybe I should grab one and age it.

Served in a Sierra Nevada tulip. Didnít pull out the Russian River goblet for the side-by-side Light cherry and earth. Funk and slight phenolics. Shows lots of promise. Good, not great.

Draught @ the brewpub (RR). Rated on 21.07.2012
Aroma has sourish apples and leathery notes. Feels like a cider. Flavourt is tart and sour with some apple-like aromas and woody notes. Dry finish with lactic acid. Quite unique.

75 cl bottle @ hotel room, Las Vegas. BBE 20486 (julian date, I suppose)
Aroma is sourish and slightly tart with earthy notes, some apples, lactic acid and hints of hay. Flavour is tart with somewhat floury apples, earthy and leathery notes. Quite foamy palate. Confusing stuff; not sure if I like this or not.

(750ml bottle thanks to AdumbC) clear gold, lasting tan fine bubbled head. Nose of funk, lightly tart, orange pulp, umami, smells good. Taste of funk, light earth, orange pulp, no real tartness, very well carbonated and dry.

750 cc from Frank Smithís and Caponeís. Pours medium copper with a lot of carbonation and a fizzy white head that goes away quickly. Looks like a smacked ass really. Nose is acidic tartness, Sweet-Tarts, lactosy earthiness, fruit. Tastes tart, fruity, with mild cherry hints, acidic lactosy tartness, yeasty Bretty notes, definite pear and lemon late in addition to the cherry. This one is complex and evolves nicely as it warms, but Iíd it didnít blow me away.

Hey. Very tasty. Donít worry, I bought another one to "age". And by age, I mean until I run out of beer the next time. Anyway, off to the rating... has a bit of a sour smell, looks great... a bit cloudy (or is that condensation?). Tastes great. Not really sour. Lots of the bret funk. No discernable alcohol notes. A really great beer. I imagine those who age it to itís potential will reap big rewards. I just donít have that kind of patience. Sorry. I do, however, think this was a great beer. And Iíll pay the price again to get some more from my super secret beer store that has lots of it.

Draft sample at Russian River. Pours clear orange; thin white head, poor lacing. Nose is tart winter fruit: pears, apples, etc. Further nosing reveals a quite simple sour note, with more apples, jicama, and light clean malt. Flavours are equally as simple (yet pleasing) with tart apple, berries, candy, light funk, and spice... Iím considering this a placeholder rating until some of my bottles get a year or two on them.

Sampled on 7/7/2012. This wild ale pours a light yellow from a 750ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet, tart and funky. A medium bodied wild ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, slightly tart and slightly funky. The hops are earthy. A little tart and funky tasting, but mostly dry and bretty. Still fairly young, but I think this one will funk up with some age. Just going to have to age a few bottles and find out. Interesting that all the brett action was done in the bottle. Curious to see how this one will age. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Almost perfect! Could use a little more head retention though. Wonderful flavor that include a minor tartness. World class!
